Setting Sail on the Roulette

As I embarked on the Tenerife Sailing Tour, I was filled with anticipation. The promise of witnessing the majestic dance of dolphins and whales in their natural habitat was a call I couldn’t resist. The journey began with a warm welcome from the crew, who greeted us with smiles and a genuine enthusiasm that set the tone for the day. The Roulette, a luxurious 12-meter sailboat, was our vessel for this adventure, and it was impeccably maintained, offering a sense of comfort and safety.

The sailboat departed from Puerto Colón, a picturesque harbor nestled in the heart of Costa Adeje. As we sailed into the open sea, the gentle sway of the boat and the salty breeze enveloped me in a sense of tranquility. It was a moment to pause, breathe deeply, and connect with the vastness of the ocean. The crew’s knowledge of the area was impressive, and they pointed out various points of interest along the way, enriching the experience with stories of the sea and its inhabitants.

A Dance with Dolphins and Whales

The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the encounter with the dolphins and pilot whales. As we ventured further from the coast, the excitement on board was palpable. Suddenly, we were surrounded by a pod of dolphins, their sleek bodies gliding effortlessly through the water. It was a mesmerizing sight, one that filled me with awe and gratitude for the opportunity to witness such beauty.

The crew’s expertise shone through as they navigated the waters, ensuring we had the best vantage points to observe these magnificent creatures. At one point, I found myself at the edge of the boat, feet dangling over the side, feeling as close to the dolphins as I could without diving in. The experience was both exhilarating and humbling, a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living beings.

We were fortunate to also encounter several groups of pilot whales, their presence a testament to the rich biodiversity of the area. The crew’s attentiveness and passion for marine conservation were evident when they took the time to remove a plastic sack from the water, explaining the potential harm it could cause to sea life. It was a poignant moment, highlighting the importance of protecting our oceans.

Anchoring in Serenity

Our journey continued as we anchored in the serene bay of La Caleta de Adeje, a site of scientific interest known for its unique lava formations and diverse plant species. Here, we were invited to swim in the crystal-clear waters, with snorkeling equipment provided at no extra cost. The experience of floating in the ocean, surrounded by the beauty of nature, was a moment of pure bliss.

As I swam, I reflected on the parallels between this experience and my own journey of personal growth. Just as the ocean is vast and ever-changing, so too is the path of self-discovery. The tranquility of the sea mirrored the inner peace I strive to cultivate through my yoga and meditation practice.

As we sailed back to the port, the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the horizon. It was a fitting end to a day filled with wonder and connection. The memories of this trip will remain etched in my heart, a reminder of the beauty and magic that exists in the world when we take the time to truly see it.
