History does Repeat! - Franklin, our very, very knowledgeable tour guide has studied and researched the true history of Charleston. To start the tour he carefully explained who, where, when and why events occurred. The first being the indigenous Native Americans whose land we toured. ( I personally never thought about who were the original inhabitants of South Carolina). This was only the start of the history of Charleston! I’ve been left with so many things to think about since this tour. Some are pleasant thoughts and others thoughts are not pleasant but need to be said. History does repeat itself so thinking about the importance of not repeating mistakes is critical in today’s world. Yes forms of taking others land (indigenous people’s were taken)and holding people in bondage ( restricting people to poverty economically ) is happening today in our world! What can I do!

Get the facts beyond the surface of Charleston - This was the perfect way to begin our time in Charleston. As a result of this incredibly informative tour, we saw the city with a different perspective than we otherwise would have. Mr. Frank and his beautiful wife Sylvia went above and beyond to answer any questions we had. It was a treat to experience their encyclopedic knowledge of Charleston. As they say, unless you know your history, you are doomed to repeat it. This tour grapples with some difficult and sobering history that must be acknowledged.

Excellent Tour - I learned a lot of historical information from our guide, Franklin Williams. It was my third visit to Charleston & the first time I heard the information Mr. Williams shared. I highly recommend you add the tour to your activities while in Charleston. I look forward to reading some of the books Mr. Williams recommends. I hope Mr. Williams will continue to educate through social media platforms for those who may not have the opportunity to visit Charleston. Thanks again Mr. Williams.

Excellent - Excellent tour filled with great information and history. Frank was engaging and allowed my family to see and learn so much more about Charleston than what is presented in the pretty tourism picture. I highly recommend the tour.

Learn about the people who literally “built” this city. - This was my 2nd tour with Frank. He’s professional, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the African American history of Charleston. I highly recommend everyone take his tour. I took the “morning walk” tour last year and the riding tour this time. Preferred the walking tour if the heat isn’t a deterrent. But both great!

Highly recommend Franklin’s tour - The Other Charleston is an appropriately named tour. We cannot speak highly enough about this guided tour by Franklin. He is incredibly knowledgeable. He shares his knowledge about the History of Charleston that is not covered in other tours. Enlightening and informative, particularly to us as adults born in other countries. Highly recommend.

Frankly the Best! - It is rare in a city that an option for a tour where the story behind the story is provided. Franklin schooled us about the history of Charleston as we walked and drove the city streets. Unscripted he plays off the energy of the group and organically tailors the experience uniquely to each group. When he says,“ask questions”, my advice is to ask questions because he truly makes it interactive journey.
