Informative private tour experience - Gilberto our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. He told a lot about the history and culture of the areas we drove through. It was great to be able to explore the tombs and museums in Tarquinia and Cereveteri at our own pace, without being part of a crowded tour group. We both learned a lot more about the Etruscans and would highly recommend this tour.

OUTSTANDING PRIVATE CRUISE EXCURSION WITH GILBERTO & DISCOVERY TOURS! - I wish I had an even more superlative word than "outstanding" for Gilberto and his company--because absolutely everything was perfection itself on the private full-day shore excursion from Civitavecchia to Tarquinia & Ceverteri that I arranged for 13 of us from our Cruise Critic roll call. From our first email exchanges (after I'd explored his excellent info-packed website and explained what we wanted to do), I was impressed with his graciousness, patience, flexibility, and expertise. No question went unanswered in full detail--and the customizing I requested was never a problem. On the day of the tour, Gilberto and his colleague Marco met us at dock in their immaculate new luxury Mercedes vehicles. (It was more economical to split the group into two vehicles, but all of us were always together at the sites.) Their fascinating stories (in perfect English) added so much to the beautiful scenery enroute to the two totally different sites--one north and one south of the port. And at each site, Gilberto facilitated our entries and touring--and even had a special video presented in one of the tombs at Cerveteri! We also had time to explore on our own. The frosting on the cake was Gilberto's choice of our lunch break: a marvelous hill-top restaurant in Ceri, where we were treated to the best wine-tasting ever at a private table for the 13 of us with panoramic views--and the continuous serving not only of excellent local white and red wines but also outstanding appetizers. ("Appetizers" also doesn't begin to do it justice, as it was like a MEAL of elegant delicious items.) Of course, as promised, Gilberto made sure we were returned to our ship in sufficient time before the all-aboard, so we didn't have to wait in line to re-board our ship. All 13 of us (seasoned travelers) were entranced--and several of us are planning a land trip with Gilberto in the near future! NOTE: Please also see my review of our port-call from also top-rate Naples to Pompeii & Herculaneum shore excursion with Gilberto's Discovery Tours during the same cruise. ;-)
