Highlights
  • Holbox Island - Holbox Island Excursion: “A Pristine Haven”

Overview:

This tour is meticulously crafted for visitors staying in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, or Tulum, offering them a chance to explore the stunning Holbox Island in a single day without the need for an overnight stay. Nestled at the northernmost point of the Yucatan Peninsula in Quintana Roo, Mexico, Holbox Island is a global treasure within the “Yum Balam” wildlife sanctuary, an ecological preserve. It is flanked by Cabo Catoche to the east and separated from the mainland by the Yalahau Lagoon. Spanning 43 kilometers in length, Holbox Island boasts beaches with powdery sand, embellished with seashells brought in by the currents of the translucent, jade-hued ocean. The island is a mere two-hour journey from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya.

Chiquilá:

Our next destination is Chiquilá, a brief 10-minute drive away, where our boats, along with their skilled captains and knowledgeable guides, await to commence the tour of Bird Island and Passion Island, perfect for observing a vast array of tropical birds and pink flamingos.

Cenote Yalahau:

The enchanting Yalahau Lagoon, a natural wonder encircled by mangroves, divides Holbox Island from the mainland.

Birds Island (Passion Island):

Within the lagoon lies Isla Morena, also known as Bird Island, which serves as a sanctuary for over 140 bird species that nest there. Visitors can commonly spot White Ibises, Frigatebirds, Great Egrets, Double-crested Cormorants, American White Pelicans, Reddish Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills, Herons, Brown Pelicans, and Pink Flamingos.

Holbox Island:

The adventure continues after lunch, as we invite you to explore Holbox Island via golf cart tours (maximum of 4 passengers per cart) for an hour and a half, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. Discover the island’s sandy lanes, its welcoming inhabitants, and its quaint fishing village. Long revered for its extraordinary beauty, Holbox Island was a retreat for relaxation and leisure by the ancient Maya. When the Spaniards arrived in the 16th century, they encountered the deserted Holbox Island but were equally captivated by its singular charm.

  • Air-conditioned van transportation from Cancun or Playa del Carmen to Chiquila, equipped with a television.

Good daytrip - It was not a small group. A big bus full of people. Arturo (Brad Pitt) was good and friendly guide. I loved speedboats and mototaxis but staff didnt speak english at all. All Inclusive was breakfast (toast, juice, cookie, apple). Lunch was great but No drinks included. I got only two drinks in a speedboat. Holbox is beautiful but the beaches were full of seagrass. Long day but i liked it anyway

Trip was average. - The scenery made this trip worth it. The tour guide Frank was poor service. He left us behind when we went to the restroom. He was always in a rush when moving from point a to b. At the end he kept asking for a tip.

Communication to participants was poor! - During one point on the trip, Frank, was helpful with getting great pics but that was the only positive aspect of the trip. However, the fact that I requested a English speaking tour but was told when I arrived that no guide spoke much English was ridiculous. Thankfully my friend spoke Spanish but had to translate the entire trip. Why offer a service option you don’t actually offer? Communication regrading meeting points was not clear. Also, covid guidelines were NOT enforced throughout the trip especially at lunch when they seated us with random strangers. Our table was only allowed one dish of tortilla to share and no one touched any after one nasty table mate put her fingers all in it. Later one of the tour guides personally asked us for a tip which I thought was inappropriate. If I wish to tip I will. Then returning I had enough and yelled at a female in van we shared to put on her mask. The driver never insisted she keep her mask on. She put her mask on once I finished verbally chastising her. The driver insisted that he drop off the mask less female first even though he had to pass my hotel to do so. So inclusion. No I would not take another tour with this company in the future.

Please dont - First of all I want to say that isla holbox is very beautiful and definitely worth a visit. But not with this tour / this company. We were picked up in canun - hotel zone and then drove to playa carmen to pick up other guests. All this made no sense because it was a huge detour. Cenote and passion island were canceled, supposedly because of the wind. Then we were promised that we would go directly to isla holbox instead and would stay there longer than planned. (Since cenote + passion island was canceled one had additional time) the organization was a mess, we were picked up at 06:00 at the hotel and were only at 12:30 in Isla Holbox and finally could only stay until 15:00 on the island. That means ONLY 3 hours. After that we had lunch and went back to the hotel. That means we were 12h in the bus and only 3h on the island. According to the navigation device, the trip would actually be only 2.5 hours away!!!! Huge rip-off. A total of 55 participants and a huge chaos, no overview.
