Overview:

Nestled at the northernmost point of the Yucatan Peninsula in Quintana Roo, Mexico, Holbox Island is a global treasure within the “Yum Balam” wildlife sanctuary, an ecological preserve. It is flanked by Cabo Catoche to the east and separated from the mainland by the Yalahau Lagoon. Spanning 43 kilometers in length, Holbox Island boasts beaches with powdery sand, embellished with seashells brought in by the currents of the translucent, jade-hued ocean. The island is a mere two-hour journey from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya.

Chiquilá:

Our next destination is Chiquilá, a brief 10-minute drive away, where our boats, along with their skilled captains and knowledgeable guides, await to commence the tour of Bird Island and Passion Island, perfect for observing a vast array of tropical birds and pink flamingos.

Cenote Yalahau:

The enchanting Yalahau Lagoon, a natural wonder encircled by mangroves, divides Holbox Island from the mainland.

Birds Island (Passion Island):

Within the lagoon lies Isla Morena, also known as Bird Island, which serves as a sanctuary for over 140 bird species that nest there. Visitors can commonly spot White Ibises, Frigatebirds, Great Egrets, Double-crested Cormorants, American White Pelicans, Reddish Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills, Herons, Brown Pelicans, and Pink Flamingos.

Holbox Island:

The adventure continues after lunch, as we invite you to explore Holbox Island via golf cart tours (maximum of 4 passengers per cart) for an hour and a half, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. Discover the island’s sandy lanes, its welcoming inhabitants, and its quaint fishing village. Long revered for its extraordinary beauty, Holbox Island was a retreat for relaxation and leisure by the ancient Maya. When the Spaniards arrived in the 16th century, they encountered the deserted Holbox Island but were equally captivated by its singular charm.

Included:

• Air-conditioned van transportation from Cancun or Playa del Carmen to Chiquila, equipped with a television.

• A visit to the town of Chiquila for breakfast (individual expense), featuring local specialties like Empanadas de Cazon y Raya.
