Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases.

Unforgettable - My family and I were traveling from New York and booked the Early Access tour to Chichén Itza. We had to be up and out by 4:15am where we were met by the first van who was prompt, friendly and professional. They then took us to pick up other groups and meet the bus. The bus was a big tour bus with a restroom on it, which was such a relief for me when traveling with 2 young children. The bus was beautiful and clean and most importantly, comfortable! We were all able to kick back and catch some more sleep before arriving in Chichen Itza. We were blessed to have the pleasure of meeting Marco as our guide. Marco has vast and deep knowledge of the Mayan culture, so having him for our guide made this trip priceless. Not only that, but Marco has been guiding in Chichen Itza since I was born! People know him there and he knows them. I felt there was preferential treatment to his group as we slid effortlessly in and around the property. Marco also had the absolute best photo ops only years of walking the property could provide. As we left Chichen Itza there were mobs of people waiting to get in and about 50 tour buses. I can compare the feeling to Grand Central Station. I felt relief passing everyone on our way out and knowing we avoided that experience by booking the early access tour. At Cenote Chichikan we enjoyed a delicious Mayan buffet and swam. There was only 1 other bus there at the time and it seemed crowded to me. I can only imagine how insane it would be if we did not do the early access tour. After we ate and swam, we met Marco again who introduced us to a Mayan shaman who gave us a blessing. Again, feeling some level of connection between Marco and the people there. He must have been Mayan in a past life! My children are 6 and 9 and at the end of this tour they scored it 20/10. I would have to agree. It was truly amazing and an experience we will never forget. Thank you Amigo tours and Marco for sharing your knowledge with us.

Mayan Beauty! - We loved it so much!! It was great seeing the ruins and Carmen was really knowledgeable and she was very accommodating! The driver was good too. We loved the Chichen Itzá tour. Had a great time with all of the history and mathematics lessons. Just throughout the tour you have to sneak in pictures time as it’s kind of go go go. The Cenote was beautiful, and I would love to go again. The food there was mediocre honestly. You’re gonna want to bring sandwiches like we did. Other than those things it was a great time.

Highly recommend the early tour! - I’m really glad we opted for the early tour. It was so hot at Chichén Itza even early in the morning. By the time we left, it was even hotter and way, way more crowded. The lunch and cenote was a welcome break after the heat. Frank was our guide and he did a great job explaining Mayan culture and the history of the sites and buildings. Alex was our driver and did a great job. It was a really long day, though. We left around 5 am and got back after 5 pm. But I definitely recommend the tour as long as you’re prepared for the long day.

Great for transport and guide explanation - It was a basic tour that took you where you needed to go. The guide was very nice and explained things well. The drive was smooth and organized. Didn’t like that it was an extra charge for tax/entry. Also a charge for life vest which is mandatory. Just include in the total amount for booking. The food at the buffet was basic and extra for water and drinks. At the ride back they drop you in front of the hotel and not inside like pick up.

Early access to Chichen Itza: Mixed Feelings - First, the positives: 1. They arrived for the pick-up in time 2. The bus was clean and comfortable 3. They managed the ticketing and entry well 4. The guide, Martin, was friendly and obviously has been doing this for a while. The negatives: 1. They ask you to not spend money with the local indigenous vendors at Chichen Itza, claiming that the store at the lunch/Cenote venue is more "authentic". This was a rather transparent effort at routing business that way. Everything at this "authentic" store was pretty much identical to the vendors at Chichen Itza and at least twice the price. What bothered me the most that the local vendors at Chichen Itza seemed much more impoverished and in need of the business. I researched blogs (unfortunately after the fact) and saw that others have had similar experiences. 2. They sell a number of obsidian artifacts. I have no way of asessing if these were real or not, but we certainly did not see any workshop or equipment needed to shape and polish obsidian artifacts. At best, these are sourced from the same place as other vendors. 3. They also recommend that people use obsidian disks to watch the sun / solar eclipse. That is actually not a safe thing to do. The degree of protection depends on the level/consistency of transparency and the thickness. General observations: 1. It is a long drive. With all the different points of pickup and dropoff, it takes at least 4 hours each way. The traffic on our way back was pretty bad. 2. All of us carried water/drinks, but they should offer (or even sell) water in the bus. It can get very hot, and people need to stay hydrated.
