Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, known for its beautiful assortment of avian species, is a hub of bustling bird activity, where they migrate, dwell and offer stunning photographic opportunities in large gatherings. Now referred to as Keoladeo National Park or Keoladeo Ghana National Park, this UNESCO World Heritage site is situated in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, and is a favoured weekend destination from Delhi due to its nearby location, especially when the seasons change to autumn and winters.
The park is home to an impressive diversity of more than 366 bird species, 379 plant varieties, and about 30 mammals. The sanctuary’s new name has its roots in the Keoladeo temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva that is situated within its premises. The avian inhabitants of the park consist of hundreds of water birds that originate from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, China, and Siberia, seeking refuge in India during the harsh winter months. This influx of international visitors makes Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary a captivating destination for both bird enthusiasts and wildlife photographers.
