An Unforgettable Journey - We had a great time on our 9-day luxury tour with Lion King Adventures of Tanzania. We selected our trip in the “Wet” season, as the Landscapes were lush green in colour as opposed to the “desert sand” colours of the customary “Dry” season, the tour cars “far-fewer” in number, whilst the game was in abundance on our trip, as this is a time of plenty in this “Evolutionary Oasis”. Epitomized by the baby Zebra and Wildebeast that appear in early January in the locations of the “Southern Migration” such as the Ndutu Plains and the Ngoronogoro Conservation Area Highlands. Before booking, we carefully researched a large number of tour companies and chose Lion King Adventures. We’re glad we did, we enjoyed the accommodation, guide, vehicle, food and itinerary. We could not have been happier with all that they organized and provided. Special thanks to our guide, Yusuph. You could immediately see he was an exceptionally kind and decent human being, with a deep care for the environment and doing the right thing. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. Most importantly he was experienced which meant he was great at navigating, driving and finding the hot spots for sighting animals, and indeed could spot a lion from over 1km away in the distance. Yusuph shared extensive knowledge about the animals, parks, history and Tanzania in general, all the whilst ensuring we were having the very best of times. Our adventure embarked on a 2000km overland trip in a “tricked-out” short wheel based Toyota Land Cruiser named “Zazu” (after the African Hornbill character) where we visited a majority of Tanzania’s great national parks. We became very fond of this incredible vehicle as it never failed to traverse whatever Yusuph put in its way, and rescued dozens of other companies cars (and their drivers and on-board tourists) from being stuck in the mud in various off-road scenarios, with effortless grace and ease. Day 1 started in the luxurious Gran Melia Hotel in Arusha for an overnight and launch briefing. The restaurants, bars, spa, gym and guestrooms at this lavishly appointed new hotel were well appreciated by us before we embarked on our overland journey with many hours per day planned over bumpy “off-roads”. The breakfast buffet was delightful, and ensured we were well satisfied before the first day of the actual tour started. Day 2 began with a 4-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, a land of wide expanses, rivers bush and scrub. Dotted with 3000-year old giant baobab trees and the iconic flat roofed acacia thorn trees. Here huge herds of Elephant roamed in idyllic bliss, dwarfed in the epic scale of the wilderness that surrounded them. Overnight we lodged at the luxuriously appointed Maramboi Camp on the shores of Lake Manyara. Dinner was under the stars on their terrace, surrounded by small herds of Zebra, Impala, and the odd impertinent Hippo. Our Room had a private pool and terrace overlooking the lake and was large and comfortably appointed, with large shower, piping hot water, and huge king size canopy bed. This was a theme of all the accommodation chosen by Lion King Adventures for the whole trip. Along with excellent food and wine included, with a wide variety of choices suitable for both Vegetarians and Non Vegetarians. Day 3 started with a morning game drive in Tarangire National Park, followed by a picnic in the park (we were blown away by the picnic basket Yusuph presented each day “hey presto” at lunchtime with a full complement of goodies to keep our minds focused on the beauty all around us). In the afternoon we drove to Lake Manyara National Park in the great Rift Valley. A soda lake dotted with flamingoes and a night safari where we saw lion hyena elephant and much more under the moonlight. After our Night Safari, our delightfully appointed lodge – Kilimamoja, kept their kitchens open until midnight, to serve us a wonderful 4 course meal with wine, after our action packed day. Suitably replete and tired we gladly retired to our lavishly appointed room and our very comfortable bed. In the morning upon drawing our curtains, we were greeted by an epic view of the Rift Valley from our room, and a delicious breakfast served by extremely warm and personal staff. Day 4 and Day 5 too Central and Eastern Serengeti we drove, via the beautiful Ngorongoro Highlands and amongst several volcanoes and mountains, connecting vast swathes of Equatorial Rain Forest. A fascinating stop at the Olduvai Gorge to see the birthplace of mankind, followed by the remaining drive to the Central and Eastern Serengeti famous for its endless open expanses, interspersed with its rugged rock kopjes and acacia and “sausage tree” forests amongst the palm fringed marshlands, hippo pools and rivers. We've never felt space like it. At times we would drive for 4 hours and see not a single human. Just endless herds and wildlife in all directions. At night we lodged at the luxury wilderness tented camp named Nyota Lodge, positioned next to the luxury Four Seasons Camp in Central Serengeti. Nyota is a new lodge but perfectly in harmony with its environment, built in an eco-friendly way, it wants for none of the comforts and luxuries but all provided in a sustainable way. The staff were very friendly, the food abundant and fresh, the wine kept flowing, whilst we sat by the wood fire under a star strewn sky, and watched grazers devour the lush marshland beyond our “lawn”, all the whilst the whoop of Hyena and the deep roar of Lions could be heard in the night air. Day 6 and Day 7 Having covered Central and Eastern Serengeti (Visitors do not visit Western and Northern Serengeti until May to November) we embarked to the southern Ndutu plains to see the calving season for zebra and wildebeast. A buffet for carnivores and an epic dawn balloon safari over the plains and acacia forests. We lodged overlooking Lake Masek at the Luxury Lake Masek Tented Camp. At night we were surrounded by plains animals munching the abundant vegetation, and again could hear the excited calls of predators. Our “Glamping” style tent was extremely luxurious, and the food very good throughout. We needed to borrow I phone Chargers and the lodge graciously lent us theirs. A very natural and awesome location. Day 8 After a great breakfast and dawn game drive packed full of wildlife we set off to the Ngorongoro Highlands to take in the cold, mist, fog, mountains, volcanoes and altitude with game galore culminating in a wonderful days game drive on the Ngorongoro crater rim, and surrounding Highlands, At night we lodged at the mysterious Lion’s Paw Camp, and enjoyed a delicious meal, hot shower, and electric blanket Day 9 we descended into the Ngrongoro Crater at dawn, and were left speechless by the vistas, beauty and wildlife we saw, including 7 endangered Black Rhino, before being taken back to our departure point, at Kilimanjaro airport. This was an unforgettable trip. Full of adventure amazing landscapes natural awe inspiring beauty. Wondrous huge African skies tinged all manner of warm hues at sunrise and sunset. And most of all wondrous happy loving people who welcomed us like long lost family. Asante Sana Tanzania. You will never be forgotten. We wholeheartedly recommend anyone to take on their “bucket list” trip to Tanzania with Lion King Adventures. It is obvious this is a wonderful local Tanzanian company, whose staff love their job and the company they work for, as everyone cares that their guests have the best experience imaginable. Bravo!

Great experience - Our guide Gilbert was a fantastic. He has very good eyesight and lots of knowledge about all sorts of different animals. These skills were very helpful in finding a multitude of different animals. He also works very hard to clean the car keeping it in great shape. Gilbert will do everything in his power to find you the animals that you are looking for. Amazing experience!

Once in a lifetime - We booked our 9 days safari with lionking adventures short before the travel date. They gave us a good travel plan and managed to get the hotels - although it was high season. We felled in very safe hands. At the end of our journey we still feel this way. The travel plan was just right and our guide Goodluck was more than perfect. He found the animals and brought us in the best position to watch and photograph them very close. Everything went smooth and we could lay back and enjoy the parks. It was very pleasant to be around him and we had a lot of fun. It‘s very important to have a person around you on this trip you are comfortable with and who cares for you - not only because he get paid for it. Goodluck had a great pleasure of showing us his country and wanted us to feel good and enjoy the safari. We would do this trip with the travel plan and our guide Goodluck again and would recommend it to our friends and family. Thank you very much for this great adventure Sonja and Petra from Germany

Amazing Trip of a Lifetime!! Hard to put into Words... - Our safari experience with Lion King Adventures went far beyond our expectations. It was truly a trip of a lifetime! Each day brought new wonders to our senses. We could never have imagined a better trip. Seeing wildlife up close with our own eyes, at times peaceful, but also raw and savage, was awe inspiring. The landscapes were truly amazing! Our guide Salehe was a warm and friendly gentleman, who was very knowledgeable. He was professional yet personable, and put us completely at ease right away. If you are able to go on an African Safari, we highly recommend Lion King Adventures.

Unforgettable Africa - There are not enough words to describe this safari, you have to experience it for yourself. With over 1,000 tours companies, how do you know which one to choose? Months and months of research lead us to select Lion King Adventures. Then you need to decide which safari is right for you. We knew witnessing the Migration was number one on our list so we chose the 9-day safari. Then came time for the initial direct contact to begin. Edward, the tour company owner, was quick to respond and answered any and all questions. His communication from beginning to end was 100% and always very friendly and caring. There’s a lot of mixed information out there regarding visas, vaccines, etc. After Edward took care of our initial booking details, he handed us over to Rose. Amazing Rose! She either answered our questions or steered us in the right direction for correct information. Now, the adventure began. We landed in Kilimanjaro where we were met by our driver. After a very long flight from the US and an hour drive to Arusha, we settled in to our first night at Ilboru Lodge. It was fun to sit at the little outside bar area and talk to others that just came off safari. They were full of stories! The next morning we met our guide Yusuph that would be with us the remainder of our safari. We quickly loaded up our baggage and headed out to the bush. Beginning the very first day, we were in awe of what we were experiencing. One exciting day lead to another, even more special and jaw-dropping than the day before. We kept asking ourselves how it could possible get any better, but it did. Each morning we were met by Yusuph during breakfast. It was a great time to relax and get to know him. He also joined us at dinner and went over the next day itinerary. Lunches were always out in the bush, either under a tree with a spectacular view or a very nice picnic area with restrooms. Our lunches were delicious and we had plenty of beverages whether we felt like beer, wine, soda, or water. We continued on every day to a new safari lodge or bush camp. Each location was different and so inviting. The friendliness and helpfulness of each and every place was overwhelming. We learned a little Swahili that Yusuph practiced with us while driving. It was fun to be able to greet our hosts and thank them in their native language. When out on safari each day there were main roads (all dirt) that lead to lesser roads. They refer to these lesser roads as a game drive. We sometimes drove for hours without seeing another vehicle. We literally cannot express the number of animals we saw, and saw close up. Yusuph was a cautious and safe driver, all at the same time, spotting something we didn’t see the day before. The photos will tell the story of what we saw. Finally, we witnessed two migrations. This was an incredible sight to behold and quite emotional as we’ve dreamed about this for so many years and now we were there! Sometimes you have to wait awhile to see if a herd is going to get up their nerve to cross the crocodile infested river. Once they start, it’s an unbelievable thing to watch. Yusuph was a pro at putting us right on a great view point so we could capture great video and photos. We left with our hearts full, and a love for Africa that will be with us forever. If you’re thinking about going to Africa, don’t wait! Start here with Lion King Adventures where you’re guaranteed a most memorable experience. Tips: Bring an electricity plug adapter for Tanzania. Malaria Pills; not for us. They actually made us very sick so we stopped taking them. Bug spray to spray clothes and we found Sawyer Picaridin Insect Repellant worked great for face and any exposed areas. 14-hour protection. Bring face cloths. Super thin lightweight pants and shirts that can be rinsed out and dried overnight. Safari hat with chin strap.
