Additional Information

Avoid the hustle and discover serene spots in an ancient district. Experience Amsterdam through a local’s perspective!

We’ll reveal more than just the typical: landmark structures & secluded courtyards. As we navigate the labyrinth of narrow streets, we’ll narrate tales across time from Rembrandt to the present day.

En route to the Jordaan neighbourhood, you will:

  • gain insights into the history of the canal belt and come across majestic edifices like the Royal Palace
  • explore concealed courtyards where widows of sailors and elderly benefactors resided in 1650 – these were the initial social housing initiatives worldwide
  • examine the unique layout and notice the contrasting character of this district compared to the canal belt
  • understand why locals & the art community resisted efforts by investors and the city to redevelop the area in the 1970s
  • peruse an antique market for a keepsake

Allow us to acquaint you with our Jordaan: an urban village within the city.

  • You should be able to walk for about 2.5 hours over a distance of 2.5 miles / 4 km.

Original and excellent tour - We loved the private tour option to discover Amsterdam and Michael was a wonderful guide who showed us not only the usual tourist spots, but also places that are not on the normal tourist itinerary, that we loved and that we would not have found on our own. The courtyards and their history were the highlights of this walking tour.

Five stars is not enough, but it is the highest I can give - I have taken many tours in many cities. It is rare to find such an interesting "off the beaten track" tour with such a knowledgeable and friendly guide. Christian gave us a glimpse of the Amsterdam everybody sees, and an intriguing peek into the streets and courtyards and attractions that most tourists never see, all while giving fascinating historic and cultural background. An amazing experience.

Fantastic tour - Christian gave us one of the best tours we have been on in Barcelona, so we booked him for Amsterdam as well. He took us to some common tourist places, but mostly to places that are not on the normal tourist itinerary, which we loved. He is an exceptionally knowledgeable tour guide. We learned many interesting facts about the town, its history, its culture and modern life. We had a fantastic time!!!

Wonderful tour to really get to know the real history of Amsterdam - Our private tour with Christian was a major highlight of our visit to Amsterdam. We appreciate his historical knowledge, his openness about a wide range of issues, his sharing of many off-beat locations that we would never have stumbled on ourselves, and his general cosmopolitan nature. We will definitely contact him when we visit Barcelona, where he also runs tours.
