Embark on this pedestrian journey away from the hectic city hub and explore the resemblances between Gaudí and Amsterdam in the Spaarndam district. This district was once a community housing project in the early 1910s and is a fine example of the Amsterdam School architectural style.
Is there a connection between Gaudí, the Spanish architect, and the Amsterdam School architecture? Indeed, both Gaudí and Dutch architects similarly emphasized the incorporation of natural forms in their designs, introducing diversity and experimentation. Both favoured the use of artisans and specialists in their work. Particularly, the young Gaudí was shaped by socialist concepts, evident for example, in his design of workers’ accommodations north of Barcelona.
During this pedestrian journey, we’ll introduce you to an exquisite residential district in Amsterdam yet to be unveiled by the tourism sector. We’ll draw comparisons between the wonderful designs employed by Gaudí and the adornments observed while walking through this district.
