- Tomb of Akbar the Great - Guests will be collected from their hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and driven to the Cantonment area on the outskirts of Agra.
Upon arrival, they will meet their local English-speaking guide and explore the Mausoleum of Akbar the Great (1542-1605). Akbar was a visionary leader who ruled over a vast territory and is one of the most renowned and respected Mughal emperors. During Akbar’s extensive reign of over 50 years, the Mughal empire strengthened, eventually covering nearly all of northern Hindustan. His rule was characterized by agricultural and land reforms, improved taxation systems, and a spirit of religious tolerance. Akbar’s tomb at Sikandra, located on the outskirts of Agra, is where his remains rest. Designed by Akbar himself and completed during his lifetime, it was later enhanced by his son Jahangir, who added a marble section on top.

Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah - The tour will then proceed to the Mausoleum of Itmad-ud-Daulah, also known as the “Baby Taj.” The guide will share the history of Akbar’s son Jahangir, who was fond of opiates and spent the latter part of his life in a stupor. His queen, Noor Jehan (meaning Light of the World), was a beautiful, talented, and strong woman. Akbar bestowed upon him the title Itmad-ud-Daulah (meaning Pillar of the State).
Itmad-ud-Daulah’s tomb is a testament to Noor Jehan’s refined sensibilities. Constructed entirely in white marble, it features some of the most exquisite inlay work in all of Agra. It is the first example of exceptional pietra dura in Agra, marking a significant departure from Akbar’s robust and masculine style. This new style would later be reflected in the Taj Mahal.
After the tour concludes, guests will be transported back to their hotel in the Agra city center in an air-conditioned vehicle.
