So good, we went back for seconds! - Ended up being a private tour as it was just the two of us; Fernando (Paco) and his team did an amazing job!
We were picked up from our hotel on time, driven to the Mercado Central where he showed us around, introduced us to vendors, and took care of all payment. the food with several vendors was so good, we went back over the course of several days for tacos!
It was a mix of history, food, and wonderful conversation. Additionally, Fernando offered suggestions for home good shopping, suggestions of where to eat dinner, pharmacy, etc.
All in all, a great tour, wonderful guide and phenomenal food! Highly recommend when you come to town!

A walking tour your taste buds won’t forget. - We were the only couple so we had our guide Francisco’s undivided attention as he guided us through the Mercado Municipal regaling us with historical facts, cultural explanations, and charming jokes. Leading us from one culinary surprise to another, each delivered not just the best food we ate all week but an explanation of how the food was prepared and a context for how the food has remained essential Zihuatanejo and the greater Mexican culture.
We stopped at food stores, saw all the raw ingredients, fish, meat, and poultry, tasted an international delicacy - huitlacoche - and sampled some incredible coffee. Francisco offered us a seventh stop, but were stuffed!
Hands down the best food we ate all week. Especially the relleno de puerco. That alone is worth the price of admission!

Great food and great guide! - Great tour! Food was amazing and our tour guide, Paco, was great! Had so much history on each place and so much knowledge of Mexico.
Only negative was there was no bottle of water included. We were told to bring one, which we did but it said it was included in the tour. Otherwise it was amazing!

A Delicious and Eye-Opening Tour of Zihuatanejo - A Delicious and Eye-Opening Tour of Zihuatanejo
We booked this food tasting and walking tour after reading all the fantastic reviews—and it definitely lived up to the hype. Tired of the repetitive food at our resort, we were looking for a culinary adventure and a chance to see more of Zihuatanejo, and this experience delivered on both fronts.
Our guide, Frank (Francisco), picked us up right on time from our hotel in Ixtapa. As it turned out, we were the only ones booked that day, so we were treated to a private tour—an unexpected bonus! Frank was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the culture and cuisine of the area.
The tour included several stops at market food stalls, where we sampled some of the most traditional and locally inspired Mexican dishes. The market itself was vibrant and fascinating, and we learned so much about the history of the region and how it has influenced the food.
Be warned: come hungry! This is not a tasting tour with bite-sized samples—each stop offers a full serving, and by the end, we were absolutely stuffed. I genuinely enjoyed most of the dishes, though I couldn’t finish them all.
One area for improvement: at approximately $280 CAD for three people, we expected a bit more in terms of basic amenities—like bottled water or perhaps coffee with dessert. We tried six dishes and shared one dessert, but no drinks were provided, which felt like a small miss on an otherwise well-curated experience.
That said, this tour is a fantastic way to dive into the authentic flavors of Zihuatanejo with a guide who truly cares about creating a memorable experience. I’d highly recommend it for adults and families with older kids or teens. Just be prepared for a bit of walking in the heat—and bring your own water!
Thanks for a wonderful food adventure!

Some of the best Mexican food we've ever had! - Many times to Mexico but first time to Ixtapa. We did this tour on day 1 of our trip to get a sense of where we could eat during our stay. But what we got was so much more! Our guide, Francisco, was honestly one of the best tour guides we've had in our 20 years of travelling. Yes, the food was simply amazing, but Francisco's knowledge of the local culture, the rich history, and the intricate family processes used to make each of the dishes made this tour one for the books. And from a company perspective, Luis has been amazing every step of the way. Prompt communication, lots of advice about maximizing the enjoyment of our stay, and super flexible when needed. We have 2 more tours booked and cantwait to see what's in store!

Zihua food tour - Our guide Francisco was excellent. We've had him before and absolutely love the way he explains everything. He goes into the history of the traditional foods of Zihua.

Fabulous Food Tour - My husband and I took the Food/City tour in early March 2025. We lucked out and were the only ones in the tour with Fabian. We were picked up at our Condo and departed in an air conditioned car. We sampled delicious Mexican cuisine with minimal walking. Our favorite tasting included a refreshing beverage with the burritos and tacos. Fabian also took us to Ixtapa where we saw the native birds and crocodiles, I guess that’s why they call him Fabulous Fabian.

Great Food Tour - We had a great tasting and exploring tour in central Zihuatanejo. Our friendly guide, Francisco, explained how the heritage of Mexican food is a vibrant blend of pre-Hispanic, colonial and modern influences and how the dishes we tried fit into that context. We stopped at 5 or 6 different food stands and restaurants to taste everything from barbacoa to carnitas to birria. All of the portions were generous - you will not go home hungry! Overall, a very informative, delicious and enjoyable tour. We highly recommend it!
