Additional Information

Explore Stone Town, the atmospheric cultural and historical heart of Zanzibar City, on this 3-hour walking tour with a guide. Constructed from coral stone in the 19th and 20th centuries, Stone Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000.

Stone Town is a very lively place where you’ll find a mixture of Arabic, African, Indian and European cultures living comfortably together. As you walk through the labyrinth of streets too narrow for cars to pass, you can see mosques, churches and temples side by side.

While you wonder around the city, your guide will take you on a historical and cultural journey through the old slave market, Darajani market place, the Old Fort and the Sultan’s Palace.

Forodhani Gardens is definitely worth a visit, especially at night when it comes alive as one of the best street food markets in East Africa.

Tour can include a lunch in a restaurant or in a local house, if booked beforehand.

Great way to see Stone Town - Our tour guide Saida was excellent and was able to answer all of our questions about Zanzibar's fascinating history and modern society. Would definitely recommend as it gives you a good overview of the city with interesting details that you might miss if you wander around alone.

Awesome tour - Awesome walking tour through Stone Town, the the Palace Museum to the marketplace and everything in between. The weather was hot, so take water and wear sturdy shoes. Wish I could remember the name of our guide. She was informative and patiently answered everyone’s questions. Highly recommended.

The first thing to do when in Stone Town - Although I travel very often with only a copy of Lonely Planet, I definitely could't experience properly Stone Town without our guide Imani Zuberi. With his excellent English, the normally 2 hours walking tour became a 3 and a half hours of interesting and entertaining stories about history, culture, religion and trivia. The heat was unbearable at moments and he always picked the route with most shade. We were so pleased with his service we also hired him for the airport transfer. It was more affordable and comfortable than regular taxi. Highly, highly recommended.

Informative and easy - Fatima made this tour the wonderful experience it was. After trying to navigate the city ourselves, myself and my girlfriend very much appreciated learning about stone town from a local. The planned attractions were very interesting, but what I loved was an opportunity to ask questions and get a better idea about the day to day life in this one of a kind part of the world.

Worth doing - During a one day cruise visit we did the walking tour. Our overall guide was passable but the specialist guides at a couple of stops were excellent. The tour allows you to cover the narrow streets of Stone Town in an organised way. After doing it you will feel oriented and comfortable about returning to sightsee by yourself. Recommended.

Just a tour, you can make it alone - No need a guide, you can make it alone. Nothing interesting anyway. Freddy Mercury hours and few more places...

Only way to see the area - Very important to have a tour guide as area is very confusing plus you really don't know what you are looking at. Even with a guide book, so much easier and pleasant to have a guide and it is not expensive. As well, I was looking for a particular shop which he took us to whereas I never would have found it on my own. Very interesting place full of history. Architecture interesting as it passes through and reflects history and who ruled at the time. The market was crazy - absolutely the highlight for me! Frantic energy and tons of people. Also got recommendations from the guide re other things to do and see and where to eat so well worth the minimal cost of the tour.

Good way to see stone town - Because I got lost in the maze decided to take the tour. I did a 5pm one to hopefully get out of the brutal heat. Loved seeing freddy mercurys home. Saw the slave quarters which is very hard to see what people can doto each other spice market etc. Worth doing.

tour not taken - we were on the Sun Princess and only found out about the $US69.00 visa fee once we were onboard! We decided not go ashore after all and tried to cancel for the 3 weeks prior to the tour. On board ship, as everyone knows, the wifi is slow, but we eventually had the response 'Your cancellation has been noted'. So far we have had no refund or paperwork saying that the tour had been cancelled even though it was well within the cancellation period. Please confirm that you received our cancellation notice and send the refund. Your tour guide on the ground can confirm we did not attend. Thank you. booking nos are available.
