Very informative tour - I went solo on this Town Tour and have to say it was amazing. We started on the sea side and the tour guide explained the history of Tanzania and Zanzibar to me. We continued through other topics such as politics and Stone Town history. Then we moved through the Town and the tour continued to be still very informative, I have learned so much! The guide then guided me through the market and back to where we started. I highly recommend this tour, Im happy I did it as a learned so much and walked to places I probably would not feel comfortable visiting solo. The guide also always asked if I would like to see the place or not so there is a space in case you wanted to adjust the tour, I guess.

Stone town walk - We had a very informative tour of Stonetown with Alfa. I would recommend booking ahead and using him as a guide on your first day, it's easier than finding your way alone. Alfa was on time and very friendly.

Excellent curated tour - Alfa’s guided historical tour of Stone Town was superb. By the end of the tour we felt we had a deeper understanding of the town’s architecture, cultural influences and historical importance on the trade route. For example, we learned about Zanzibar’s past as a major market in East Africa in the trade and sale of humans beings - something we were not aware of. Following the tour, we felt we had a better appreciation for the layout of Stone Town which allowed us to confidently explore the city on our own during the remainder of our trip. Throughout the tour, Alfa took time to answer our questions and we enjoyed many thoughtful conversations about the intriguing history of the city. We never felt rushed on the tour and we appreciated the opportunity Alfa gave us to spend a bit more time in one location or another or to make impromptu stops. For example, during the tour, we walked by the Emerson Spice Hotel where we had made a dinner reservation the night before; Alfa patiently waited while we quickly popped into the hotel to confirm our reservation for that evening. Alfa is also sensitive to his clients preferences; for instance, he asked first if the fish and meat marketplace/auction was something we wished to see and experience (and yes we did - it was fascinating!). By the end of the tour, we felt as though we were saying good-bye to a dear friend. Thank you, Alfa, for being part of our very special memories of Zanzibar.

Great experience! - We had a great experience with Alfa. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Zanzibar and stone town. He communicates well and is very accommodating. Stone town is like a big maze and having a guide is so much better to efficiently learning about it. Highly recommend!

Great and Knowledgeable Guide - Alfa was great. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and thorough. I would highly recommend getting to learn about Zanzibar with him. He also took us to several local spots which we would’ve never known existed or even how to find amongst the endless number of vendors in and around Stone Town.

towards mass tourism!! - Stone Town is to be discovered or rediscovered.... certainly, however, you should know that the city focuses on tourism and its seaport As for tourism, an excess of shops in a joyful anarchy.... you have to get lost in this town with its old-fashioned charm while still hoping to find little preserved corners!
