Mikango is a true once in a lifetime experience! - If you want the real African experience then I highly recommend planning a trip with Mikango Safari. I cannot explain how much work, thoughtfulness and care Andrew and his team put together for our visit. They made my dad's birthday so special that we will be talking about it for years and years. We are not people who are used to being catered to and they made us feel like the world revolved around us. It was private, no other tourists, which is how I prefer to travel and experience nature. Jeff the chef cooked us so many amazing authentic meals. We slept in beautiful tents under the stars in the forest by the river. Listening to Hippos, elephants and Baboons meandering around the property was a dream come true. We watched all of the river birds and animals coming for water to the waters edge while we ate breakfast every morning. Andrew took us on multiple safaris, we saw everything, he made sure of it! I have a professional camera (don't just bring a phone!) and Andrew was so kind and aware of stopping in the best places so I could get the perfect shots. He is a wealth of information and knowledge about everything Africa. You can ask him anything. I'm actually getting emotional writing this because I miss them and their place so much. If they were closer :(Canada is far), I would be stopping in for friendly chats and stories everyday! There is also a town nearby so you can go to small stores, cafes and get some souvenirs. The children of the villages are always waving and life is always busy. I truly loved it there! Thank you Andrew and everyone at Mikango for a once in a lifetime experience!

大自然に圧倒され、最高のスタッフに心温まりました。I was overwhelmed by the magnificent nature and deeply touched by the amazing staff. I am a Japanese medical student. I visited in early April 2025. To be honest, it was my first time in Africa, so I had many concerns when making the reservation—but all of them turned out to be completely unnecessary. Breathtaking scenery, powerful wildlife encounters, a lodge where hippos, elephants, and monkeys casually come right up to you, kind and attentive staff, and highly skilled and knowledgeable professional guides—everything was simply outstanding. There are other similar lodges in the area, but most of the guests there were from Western countries, and the prices seemed quite high. To be frank, the staff at those places seemed accustomed to Western guests and were a bit distant in their interactions. In contrast, Mikango Safari was completely different. It was much more affordable than the average in the area, and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. Because there were fewer guests (for better or worse), every tour I went on felt like a private one. When I arrived at the lodge, I was greeted with a welcome towel and a welcome song—such a heartfelt gesture. It truly made me happy. I believe that many Japanese people are still unaware that safaris like this even exist. If you ever have the chance to visit Zambia, I highly recommend going to Mfuwe—and especially to Mikango Safari. It may cost a bit of money, but I promise it will change your life. At the very least, it changed mine. To everyone who’s feeling worn out by daily life—why not surrender yourself to the great wilderness of Africa? An experience beyond your imagination is waiting for you.

A budget friendly lion safari. Mikango Safari is amazing! - What an incredible safari experience! Seeing the animals all roaming around together--not separated like in the zoo as I am used to--was truly memorable. Our guide Andrew took us by Land Cruiser 4x4 safari during the day and again at night. We saw more giraffes, hippos, zebras, elephants and other animals than could be counted...and then the lions! Yes, we saw them too. Food was delicious and Andrew was so, so funny and knowledgeable. Most European owned safari companies in South Luangwa charge 4X his rate and provide a lesser experience. Go with Mikango Safari, you will be glad you did.

Epic Safari and Amazing Stay in the Luangwa river banks, with Mikango Safaris - My Safari with Mikango Safaris was truly amazing: in just 4 game drives along 3 days I was and to see, and at close range, 4 of the "Big 5": Lions (on 3 occasions, at close range and following a night hunting raid), Elephants (even in front of the camp, crossing the river), Leopard (including the rare sight of cub with his mother!) and Buffalos! Not to mention Hypos, Giraffes, Zebras, Warthogs, African fishing eagle, crocodiles, Impalas, Kudo, Puku, Carmine bee eaters, baboons, Ibis, etc. As a Guide, Andrew seems to have a 6th sense, as he always knew where to find the animals! Shilton, the spotter was also exceedingly committed! The Camp crew was amazing and was always there to assist me and give me a family warm feeling (the cold wet towels when returning from the drives were a blessing!) And don't forget the food! Jeff is a very resourceful Chef and excelled in preparing the meals: he made muffins and other treats, salads, pies (world class vegetable pie), desserts (delicious apple crumble). The BEST value for money! Can't wait to do it again.

100% recommend - I highly recommend to do the safari with Mikango and suggest to book more than 1 night to maximize the chances to spot the animals and truly live the park. My guide Andrew was great - professional, friendly and helpful. If you are interested in something in particular, just ask him and he will do everything possible - I wanted to see the leopard, I finally saw the leopard! The park was amazing, less tourists than Tanzania northern parks but still big chances to spot all the big animals (not the rhino). My lodge was exceptional, the Njobvu, immersed in nature, and very close to the river and the entrance of the park. You can choose between nice tents with beds and toilets or fancier bungalows, you will be treated well anyways.

Excellent game viewing. Beautiful spot on the river. Good value for money - The Bush Camp is in a beautiful and peaceful spot on the river, with pods of hippo and various other game visible from the seating decks. Great swimming pool to cool down. Mostly however is the excellent guide (Andrew) who has great instinct to deliver superb game sightings in the Park. On a number of occasions we were the only vehicle viewing leopards and lions, a tribute to Andrew’s exceptional tracking skills. Overall a very enjoyable visit and good value for money.
