Plitvice Lakes National Park, established as one of Croatia’s oldest and grandest national parks, was enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1979.
The park comprises 16 crystalline lakes that flow into one another through a sequence of waterfalls and cascades. Minerals in the water etch into the rock, forming tufa in ever-evolving patterns.
Swarming butterflies hover above the park’s 18km of timber footpaths and trails that wind along the periphery and over the resounding water.
