Private, good guide, away from the crowd - This was such a great way to see the historic windmills, the countryside, small towns and visit a cheese factory and clog making demonstration in a private schedule. Totally stress free and our guide Teun was friendly, knowledgeable, good driver and flexible with our time as we were running a bit late. Such a great way to experience some of the most touristic sights without being coralled in a big bus. Very satisfied and would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a private experience.

Experience the Countryside - This was an exceptional day in the small towns outside of Amsterdam. We had the privilege to enjoy our day with our guide Tuen. He was obviously proud of his home and was a wealth of knowledge. We loved experiencing the inner workings of the windmills, tasting many flavors of cheese, and driving through the tight streets in the villages. He chose a picturesque location for a delicious and authentic lunch. He worked extra hard to make every minute count and recognized the importance to get us back to the ship on time. Thanks a million Tuen (aka Mr. T)

Highlight of the trip - This tour was the highlight of our trip to Amsterdam. Philip was wonderful. We learned so much about the history of the windmills, and we even got to see a spice mill and saw mill up close and in person. We also really enjoyed spending the day with Philip, getting out of Amsterdam, having lunch with him and talking about his life and the Netherlands in general, and seeing beautiful villages we would have missed if we just stayed in Amsterdam. If you want to see some of the Netherlands outside of Amsterdam, just book this tour!

Amazing Tour - We had great private tour with our tour guide Teun. We saw several quaint Dutch villages, several windmills, a working dairy farm, learned how cheese and wooden shoes are made and so much more! It was an amazing fun filled adventure. We would never have been able to do this on our own. We would highly recommend this tour!

Windmills, clogs, cheese and charm, a stroll through time and a taste of fine wine. - I wasn’t sure when I first met Phillip how this day would go. Clad in a dapper vest and a walk that showed purpose he began immediately with a warm welcome and a slight hint of Dutch dry wit. I did, however, realize that if the layers to this onion were peeled back the tour would truly take on a life of its own and be more than we had expected. I wasn’t wrong. We began in Amsterdam city center and from there ventured quickly out to the countryside. Simple facts and nuances were given as the drive saw the busy city disappear in the rear view mirror and more narrow less traveled roads, although worn, now hummed under the wheels of the car. Phillip seemed beyond knowledgeable, but I sensed a slight hesitation to avoid a deep dive of historical references. I thought, “well that just won’t due.” I prodded slightly for more information and what my wife and I witnessed was an opening of Pandora’s box culminating in a wealth of information and a deeper immersion of the Dutch way of life. Phillip unbridled gave us the most amazing perspectives on the people of Holland. Already a dry wit and say it like it is candor we observed the richness of his culture rise further above the simple cliche moments to a robust description of the people he calls his countrymen and women. Of course we saw windmills and tasted cheese. Obviously we learned about the clogs and watched a charming Dutch woman demonstrate the old technique of craftsmanship. And yes we walked tiny villages adorned with history, pride and beauty, but that isn’t what spoke to us, or at least not one individual thing. It was the collective of a way of life that navigated new built-up land in yet an old setting. Dykes and canals that protect the farms from overflow and people who have seen the effects of weather over time, the ravages of war and the modernization of an industry replacing all but a few operating relics of a time so perfectly and honorably preserved. As I chipped away the bark on a water soaked log in the shadow of a long standing sawmill the laughs and comments I heard coming from the old men watching me find my stride whispered of shock that a visitor would roll up his sleeves and truly give it a go. I surly couldn’t understand the words being said but i understood the body language. It was a pride that i felt too in that moment honoring their craft. Paying my respects to the old way and also letting them know that I was aware this was a hard endeavor to de-bark a tree. Oh no I was not being laughed at, the laughing was with me as they saw me strike and scare up for more. It was truly a remarkable moment. And yes Phillip all right there in the mix making this moment happen. Baiting me along in the only Dutch way he can, with direct to the point ribbing and dry as the sawdust under the windmill wit possible. In that moment I’m not sure who was having more fun, me striking the tree, the old men clamoring for a view, Phillip egging me on or my wife with the camera making sure for the rest of time I have this moment. This level of depth continued throughout the day with Phillip’s world views from all his travel and life’s experiences. His rich knowledge of history fueled the mystique of the land we got to experience and see. I can’t recommend more this tour. I am truly honored to have seen this beautiful area and not just through the lens of a selfie or snapshots that are beautiful but without depth. This was an immersion into a full life moment. My wife and I were transported into a magical place. This is not just a tour, this is master class in Dutch life. And we only scratched the surface. Thank you Phillip.

Best Day Tour Ever - Highly recommended for a small group (2-6 people). The country north of Amsterdam is a true treasure trove of incredibly interesting experiences, like why the invention of saw mills changed the course of world history. We saw multiple working windmills, cheese/diary farms, churches, etc. We highly recommend this tour with Philippe in his very comfortable over-sized van.
