Come see how it started! - Got to see first hand how America was founded from an English perspective. They spare no expense to illustrate such an amazing endeavor. Loved it.

history alive - Visiting gives a comprehensive and candid understanding of the story of the first permanent English settlement in North America. It's organized in 3 parts -- fullsize reproductions of the ships that brought the colonists to Virginia,, a series of replicas of English buildings and Powhatan dwellings, and a museum of the history of Jamestown from precolonial days to the 20th century. The guides st the ships and buildings are very well-informed and happy to talk to visitors young and old, expert or just discovering the history for the first time. They described how the ships were built and sailed, and they demonstr!ed skills of both and English l(tanning,, iron work, and firearms) and Powhatan (sewing, building igloo-like houses of saplings and marsh grass stems). A special feature of the museum is its honest and thorough presentation of the grim story of slavery in Jamestown. The grounds are well laid out and easily walkable, but for those who need it, there are free "golf carts" to help get around. The Cafe has a varied menu at very reasonable prices. It's very kid-friendly.

Really great attraction to visit!! - We loved this attraction! There is so much to do. There is also like to see! The reenactments, and the actors are so dedicated to their stations… They truly know so much about this time period. We ended up learning quite a bit, and we thought we had already known really a lot about our American history… Not really. The whole area is spotless, the inside area has been well, curated, narrated, designed, and especially laid out. Temperature inside was perfect! someone did a very good job of deciding which items and people should be displayed, portrayed, and showcased. This is a great place to explore for families, couples, or even a Singleton just wanting something to do for the day. My only tiny criticism would be that the museum needs to update the language on the cards. Instead of referring to the enslaved persons as "slaves "-- the literature needs to be updated to reflect that at all times, any enslaved human beings should be referred to as such, not "slaves."

Fun but simple - Kids really enjoyed the ship, not so much, the hut, but it was a lot of fun. We were here in April and the bugs are for real. The glass blowing exhibit is awesome.

A great trip - A truly impressive museum and living history experience. We thought we could do this and Historic Jamestown’s in half a day and it wasn’t enough. The indoor museum is really impressive and the living history employees were so knowledgeable!

Chigger Bites - I really enjoyed going to Jamestown but I got chigger bites when I was sitting on a wooden bench listening to the ranger talk. My ankles started to itch so bad I had to get up and walk away. I have been putting Benedryl cream on my ankles to help so beware of the chiggers when you visit Jamestown.
