A wonderful experience - If you ever go to York, do this. It was a brilliant way to spend an hour and a half learning about some of Yorks famous and notorious characters from History. Alice is a total joy. Very knowledgeable of the history and delivers with enthusiasm, fun and dramatics. My partner and I absolutely loved it and Alice makes you totally engaged with a feeling as it's almost a personal tour just for you. Alice knew everyones names as if she has known you for a few years not just minutes and took time to speak with everyone as we walked around this beautiful City.

Unmissable. Go or burn cos you didn’t - Great stories told by a fabulous storyteller who acts, mimes, does her own sound effects and raised a laugh out of each visitor in the group! Loved it. Must do in York!

Enthusiastic and fun. - Enthusiastically delivered, very knowledgeable. Actively engaged with the group, and made an good effort to learn peoples names. Made the history fun but somber when necessary.

Popular tour for a reason. - Spending a few days in York, we decided to do two of the many dark/ghostly history tours York has to offer. Alice came recommended whist out of the many others on offer we plumped for Shadows of York (also reviewed). The school of thought being Alice specialising in the bloody while Shadows the ghosts, and to be honest, we weren’t far wrong. Alice is great, larger than life, knows how to work a crowd, and very knowledgeable about the subject matter, she’s a guide who thrives on interacting with the crowd, and takes the time to chat to get to know her customers walking between locations, which provides a nice personal touch. Without going into detail (no spoilers) Alice regales her gruesome tales all with the aplomb of someone who clearly enjoys her job, but with a respect for the poor unfortunates she speaks of only adding humour where appropriate which is no mean feat. There’s several of these walks you can choose to go on in York, so if you want the gruesome stuff, go for Alice, but if you prefer the ghostly I’d go with Shadows of York, but……if you’re there for a few nights I’d most definitely do both!!!

Brilliant tour, amazing host - I honestly can’t rave enough about Mad Alice’s tour. I’ve done in twice (in Feb this year and in 2021) and both times have been a riot. She takes the time to speak to everyone one on one whilst going around offering tips for visiting the city which shows how much she goes above and beyond for her groups. I don’t know how she has got such an amazing memory! I wouldn’t hesitate to do the tour a third time and would recommend it to anyone going to York
