A pretty rad adventure day! - Oh man, this was a wild experience, for sure! My driver, Anang, was great. He spoke great English, he was informative, adapted our day around my level comfort, time constraints and also was able to take me directly to the airport after. I do highly reccomend this tour. I have to admit, I was a little nervous to be on my own, being picked up in the middle of the night (12:30am) with my luggage and taken on a several hour drive into the dark of a country I knew little about with a stranger, but it was an adventure that I quickly realized I was lucky to experience. I did this tour the day after another early and long tour (borobodur sunrise, etc) and had only 3hrs of sleep before Anang picked me up.( I do not recommend doing 2 sunrise tours back to back! Lol) And bless him, he could tell I was exhausted. And I'll admit it, I'm an overweight, midwestern forty year old white chick that works night shift and found herself taking on more than she bargained for on this physical excursion. So fair warning, there are some crazy steep steps, some made out of just mud with no railings of any kind and seem to go on forever. And it's pitch black out and you have only the light from your provided head lamp to see your breath huffing and puffing as you climb and wonder "Is this worth it?" "Will I survive this?" "Was that a bat?!" And then a local older couple will pass you with a cane and give you some encouragement that will embarrass, but motivate you and you will finally make it to the top. Also worth mentioning here that everyone will tell yiu to be prepared for the cold up there with a coat and gloves, etc. I was in shorts and a longsleeved shirt. It felt like a brisk fall day up there and I was loving it! After all those humid, hot days...bring it!! Oh man, and what a view!! Truly amazing. And a huge sense of accomplishment. I'm sure plenty if people have climbed harder and further treks and seen some cool stuff, but I've travelled a bunch and seen some cool stuff and this was up there on the list. Anyway, the other spots were cool too and worth seeing. Especially the view over the lake. Oh, and Dieng in general has amazing tea fields and rice fields galore! All in all, very cool day. I was there in rainy season and most everything was still gorgeous and crowds nonexistent. Thanks to Anang for my Mcds stop (cracks me up to see what they serve in different countries!), his honest and open answers to the many questions I had and his help to get me to the airport on time!
