Highlights
  • Yellowknife - Aurora Lodge’s advantages:
➡️Provides a spacious and warm space, to avoid waiting for the Aurora in cold outdoors or crowded vehicles.
➡️Provides snacks, hot drinks, hot dogs to make the waiting time more relaxed and enjoyable.
➡️ First Nation tepees are available as photography foregrounds, as well as fur clothing.
➡️FREE take Aurora pictures and will send the drive link.

Aurora Hunting:
➡️Go different lake with different backgrounds.
➡️Going further away increases the chance of avoiding cloud cover,
However, the disadvantages are very obvious. The space inside the vehicle is cramped, and the tem in Yellowknife is very low during the winter, making the inside of the vehicle very cold and uncomfortable. Passing vehicle headlights can cause significant light pollution.

❤️We combine the advantages of both.Visitors can wait for the Aurora in comfort lodge, and on cloudy days, we can chase the light in different directions depending on the cloud cover conditions.

Additional Information

Benefits of staying at Aurora Lodge:
Get a comfy, roomy space to stay in while waiting for the Aurora, so you don’t have to brave the chilly outdoors or overfilled vehicles.
Savor snacks and hot beverages to make your wait more enjoyable and relaxing.
Capture great shots with First Nation tepees in the foreground, and don warm fur clothing.
Get photographs of the Aurora free of charge.

Aurora Hunting:
Explore different lakes with unique backdrops.
Traveling further can enhance the possibility of avoiding cloud coverage,
But this has clear downsides. Vehicle interiors are often cramped, and during winters in Yellowknife the temperatures get critically low, making them cold and uncomfortable. Moreover, light pollution from passing vehicles is a real nuisance.

We offer the best of both scenarios. Visitors can patiently wait for the Aurora in our comfortable lodge, and on overcast days, we can pursue the lights in different locations.
This tour mainly caters to English-speaking travelers who can adapt to different languages.

Best Northern Light Tour - I joined 3 different aurora tours from 3 different companies. Each tour is rated 4.5+. This tour is the best out of the 3. They picked us up on time and drove us to a warm cabin to wait for the aurora lights. Within the cabin, there're warm fireplace, hot tea and snacks. They also have furs so we can take some pictures/kill time. The cabin is pretty spacious and it's not crowded at all. It's shared with 2 tour groups. There are tents and camp fire outside for marshmallow. The tour guide checked the aurora lights outside while we were waiting inside the cabin, and let us know once the lights were visible. It's a long wait as the light didn't come out till midnight. Once the lights looked better, they took us to a lake to have a better view of the lights. They took videos and pictures of the northern lights and shared with us the next day. The tour guide is very nice to us. This is the most comfortable way to see northern lights. Other aurora hunting tours used a shuttle bus to drive around different locations to see the lights. It's -28C at night in March and the buses barely had heating inside. So staying outside for 4-5 hours is very cold and difficult. This tour offers the best experience (comfortable, warm and nice view) and I highly recommend them.

The tour was basically... - The tour was basically centered at the lodge. There was no aurora hunting as the sky was very clear. Having done other aurora hunting tours, this one was the best for me. Whenever there was no aurora in the sky, we could get inside the lodge or even the teepees to get warm. Many times I just left my camera outside taking pictures and went inside to get cozy. The scenery around the lodge is also very nice, with lots of possibilites for nice pictures.

Angie was Great! - Angie was very nice, and she did her best to navigate around and try to find some clear skies to get a good view of the aurora. She did eventually get us a view, and she helped us take pictures of it as well. Would recommend to anyone.

Awe Inspiring! - The weather that day was very cloudy and snowing. I did not think we had a chance of seeing the lights. The tour guide was able to chase down the lights. WOW, I was wrong. We ended up seeing the most beautiful lights. It was majestic. This tour is a must. .

Great night out under the aroura and stars - Great tour. We were very well looked after. A little frustrating at the start waiting around for other guests that were late but once we were on our way it was only a few minutes before we saw the sky lit up with the aroura. There were plenty of photo opportunities and Mini worked tirelessly to ensure everyone got lots of pictures. The cabin was warm cosy and drinks and snacks were unlimited. Would have been good if we could have seen more colours in the aroura but that is mother nature! Overall a great night out.

Great tour! - Andy tried his best to take us all the way to the end of Ingraham trail in search of aurora but after two hours, we did see the aurora in the camp inspite of the clouds, great tour guide!

Highly recommend - Well organized tour and everything as expected. Pretty happy with Viator also as they didn’t charge my card until a couple days before the tour and I have no problem cancelling one of the slots. One big advantage of this tour is the flexible cancellation comparing to other tours. Plus you got unlimited free photo free which Aurora village is not the case. I would give 5 stars if not for the fact that $10 tip per night per person is expected. I didn’t pay attention to that although did see that in what is and is not included parts. I didn’t bring enough cash paying $10 Candian dollars plus $10 USD for 4 of us as that is all I had with me. The tour guide is ok with that and didn’t force me to do anything else. But I still think that is too much - $5 each per night seems to be more reasonable. The other tour I took didn’t require too at all and I am willing to tip $10 and felt much better when I was not forced to. But overall pretty good experience and I would have no problem recommending this tour

We saw the lights! - Our guide was lovely and spirited! She really motivated everyone to be outside on a very cold night! The bus was a little cold, but that might be due to weather! Heads up: a $10 /person tip is required, not really optional. Be prepared!

Very commercial and portrait focused - be careful of the tour you choose. This was a large group primarily focused on taking pictures of the participants in front of the sky no matter what it was doing. Usually there was more than one bus at the stop we were at and there was no discussion of the setting, the northern lights or anything related to the area. The time at the lodge was useless and the snacks were very poor. This tour was not about the northern lights but about pictures. We should have chosen a small or individual guide and even a taxi would have provided more for the price.

Frustrating experience - This tour basically is for photo ops for the Instagram generation. It was mostly the guide taking pics of guests against weak auroral backdrops. It’s also very big, catering to large Chinese travel groups (3-4 bus loads), not small groups or individuals. The office is not well organized- it took all day to get a confirmed departure time and when the message arrived it came with the wrong hotel listed. Reaching them by phone was difficult and the outgoing voice message is only in Chinese. Having done auroral hunts in other countries I wouldn’t consider this a serious outfit.
