Great day out, thanks Linda! - Linda was a fabulous tour guide, and spent a lot of time carefully crafting a narrative for our group to understand the history and present culture in Xi'an. Great job Linda, thanks!

Imperial China Tour included visit - Clearly the stand out visit on a two week tour of China. The sheer scale of the exhibition is breath taking. The scale of the original project matches that of the Pyramids. If it had been known about, it would have been one of the Ancient Wonders of the World.

The Eighth Wonder of the World - Visiting the Terracotta Warriors and Horses is a must on your list. It is listed as the Eighth Wonder of the World and world cultural heritage site by UNESCO in 1987. The site was discovered in 1974, and is considered one of the greatest archaeological finds in 20th century. The site in fascinating and keeps you wondering because the warriors and horses are life size figures and arranged in battle formations at the museum. They are replicas of what Qin Shi Huang’s imperial army would look like at that time, 210-209 BC. The army was built in order to protect the emperor in the afterlife. SEE photos.

Tour of Terra Cotta Warriors, Xi’an City Wall, and Muslim Quarter - Our group of five had an excellent day thanks to our tour guid Rosa. She was outstanding. She spoke good English, she was funny. Rosa was knowledgeable about the places we visited. The Xi’an Marathon was happening that day, and Rosa and our driver arrived at our hotel early, and got us out on the road, or we would have been blocked in. We arrived early at the Terra Cotta Warriors. I liked that Rosa took us to see the chariots, then Pit 2, then Pit 3, saving the spectacular Pit 1 for last. It was a great buildup to start by seeing increasing numbers of warriors, and to finish with the massive Pit 1 with 1,100 warriors. We then visited the Xi’an City Wall, which is fascinating. We had time to stroll around for awhile on the wall. It has to be the widest city wall I have ever seen. Many people were biking. Then Rosa took us to the Muslim Quarter for an excellent lunch. Some tour guides are known for taking groups to a place where they get a commission, but it might not be that good. Rosa found a place that was very authentic, and served cuisine unique to Xi’an. She helped us order. The food was great. The noodles were really good. It was inexpensive. Then Rosa took us on a walk through the heart of the Muslim Quarter. There were lots of vendors selling street food and clothes, etc. It was very cool she took us to see the Drum Tower and the Bell Tower in the center of the city. We had a great day. Two big thumbs up for Rosa, and the great tour she gave us of Xi’an.
