A Tour Guide Made all the Difference - Upon seeing that the main Shaanxi History Museum was fully booked during our stay and reading about how crowded that museum could be anyway, we sought out another option. Touring the newer Qin-Han branch of the Shaanxi Museum was a great choice, and we were so glad we booked Michael to drive us there and give us a tour. Michael has excellent English and is knowledgable and passionate about life during the Qin and Han dyansties. We are interested in social and cultural history, and that's exactly what this tour covered. I noticed that most of the wall text in the museum was only in Chinese, and honestly, a lot of the information Chinese museums do translate into English is not terribly interesting to me, or at least doesn't answer all of the questions I have. We needed a tour guide to help bring Chinese history to life, and that's what we got. We spent hours at the museum, and even took a tea break in the nice upstairs tea and coffee shop to freshen up. We definitly recommend getting a solid tour guide for this or really any other museum in Xi'an.

A private tour of the museum with an excellent guide - We had a private tour of 3 people with Michael Ma. I will definitely recommend him to anyone who is considering to visit Xi'An and wanting to know more about the area and its history. Michael was accommodating and detail-oriented. He was energetic, well-versed and passionate about the history of Xi'An, Shaanxi. His command of English was great and also a good storyteller. We went through the museum in 4 and half hours without feeling bored. He knows how to take care of his clients, and looks attentively to take care of their needs. Thanks Michael.

A walk through the Qin and Han dynasty - Michael was on time, professional and generous with his time, we went through the key exhibits and the background to each dynasty. He was knowlegeable and proficient in English. We went during the off peak season in November so it was a rather nice and leisurely pace with not too many people as we were there from 11.30 am to 2 pm. Pieces wise, having visited both locations of Shaanxi History Museum, I would rate the new Qin Han Museum as worth it to go from ease of booking, and getting tickets, a nice leisurely experience. But the number of national treasures pale in contrast to the first SHM, which would still have majority of the treasures. We were glad we went anyhow. If you are doing this for the first time definitely get a guide as it would be more focused.
