This is not a group session, you will have the complete attention of ASI instructor, James Wittering.

Perfect for beginners as full instruction is given and all gear is provided including boards, paddles and buoyancy aids, just bring yourself. After an introduction to SUP, a safety briefing and your land-based instruction, we’ll head out onto the water for a gentle paddle down the river to enjoy the tranquillity, meet some local wildlife (buzzards, kingfishers, herons, otters and even swimming dear are all about if we’re lucky!) and have lots of fun as you learn a new skill and find out for yourself why SUP is the fastest growing watersport in the world!

Develop your stand-up paddleboard (SUP) skills while enjoying the stunning River Avon during a mini-adventure. Your guide will be Wittering SUP, an ASI accredited SUP school, and a Quality Mark Centre associated with British Canoeing.

This two-hour personal coaching and touring session is ideal for beginners hoping to transform from a novice to a proficient paddler, or existing paddlers aiming to refine their techniques. The focus will be entirely on you as this isn’t a group activity. Guiding you throughout the experience will be the competent ASI instructor, James Wittering.

COVID19 UPDATE: We are committed to adhering to safety guidelines in all our sessions, ensuring they are socially distanced and hygienically maintained according to the latest government recommendations. Additionally, advice from British Canoeing, the ASI, and the Avon Navigation Trust is also followed. All our practices evolve with time and satisfy our internal risk assessment regarding COVID19.

Brilliant session! - A brilliant 1-1 session with Alex. Felt slightly anxious on arrival, but Alex's warm welcome and sense of humour immediately put me at ease. I'm not a complete beginner - but had lost a little confidence on the water and wanted to improve my paddle technique as I'd never had a formal lesson before. We went back to basics and I learnt some new skills. We had an enjoyable paddle on a beautiful calm stretch of the River Avon which is a perfect setting for beginners. If you are looking for a beginner or improver lesson with a great coach, I would highly recommend booking. Wittering SUP is the perfect place to learn and gain confidence on the water safely.

Alex and James are great teachers - I was very nervous my husband thought I was going to get back in the car, but Alex introduced herself and put me at ease. She is so good and got me standing really quick I also learned how to manoeuvre the paddleboard. Self Rescue is very hard for me but im not giving up , Roll on next week

Step-back turn coaching session - I am just starting out SUP racing and having managed without learning how to do a step-back turn before, I found myself struggling on a new rigid board. Alex broke down the movement really clearly and I was quickly getting the hang of it. Lots of great advice and feedback on how to improve going forward. The location was perfect. Deep, clear water meaning falling in (which I did my fair share of) was not an issue. We had a lot of fun, and it massively improved my confidence moving around the board. I can't wait to get back out to practice again.

Brilliant paddle boarding experience - Alex was a brilliant teacher and I was up and boarding far more quickly than I expected. The section of the river Avon where they are based is absolutely beautiful - so tranquil and calm. I would recommend Wittering Sup to everyone - a really enjoyable way to learn a new skill, relax and connect with nature whilst also gently challenging yourself.

Evening paddle for two! - We spent a lovely evening on the river with Alex, who is such a good instructor! It was my second paddle with her and my husband’s first ever paddle. It was chilled and relaxed and Alex knew exactly how to make sure that each of us were challenged to the right kind of level! Highly recommended!

June 2023 Visit - Another excellent morning with Wittering SUP. Alex and James are excellent teachers, giving great instruction in a fun way. It gives you the confidence to get out on the river. The location is excellent, a beautiful and very quiet spot on the Avon river. Cannot think of one reason not to go back again

Excellent tuition - James provided thorough training on land before letting us loose on the river. We had perfect weather conditions on a beautiful stretch of the Avon. We have since bought a board because we enjoyed it so much.
