- Hook-A-Barra - Hook-a-Barra at the award-winning Daintree Saltwater Barramundi Farm offers fishers and non-fishers the chance to catch one of Queensland’s most iconic fish in an idyllic tropical setting.
The Hook-a-Barra fishing experience lasts for one hour and includes an Introduction to Barramundi Fishing tuition session; all equipment; catch and release pond fishing; assistance from our expert fishing guides and access to special viewing tanks.
Hook-a-Barra’s ponds are filled with over 1500 barramundi and other species ranging from 50cm to over 1 metre, but these fish are not trained to jump on your rod, so you’ll get plenty of tips to perfect your technique.
Hook-a-Barra is suitable for all ages and abilities with a huge range of tackle and a fly-fishing option for expert anglers, plus everything a beginner needs to get hooked!
Non-fishing guests are also welcome with a general admission ($10 payable on arrival) providing full use of all facilities, picnic area and viewing tanks.

Amazing experience - Aaron and Josh staff members was excellent they really help you out explained every step so you can bring your barra in.
It’s a awesome experience even if you don’t love fishing the adrenaline when you have a hooked a barra the process of bringing your Barra in

Fun experience - My fishing obsessed (adult) son was desperate to give Hook a Barra a go so four us went, two for fishing, two to watch. It was great fun with both son and husband catching good fish in the allotted hour. The two staff members were friendly and knowledgeable. We knew from the start that it was 'catch and release' which is exactly what we wanted. Would thoroughly recommend.

Amazing fishing experience and awesome lunch. - My wife and I took my two teenage daughters fishing and we all had a great time. Finished the fishing off with some Barra and chips which was amazing! I can’t recommend it enough!

Amazing - Best place for people who love fishing, Employee: Jake was great! He helped me catch a fish, how to cast, where to cast, and extended our time. We payed $60 for 1 hour and he let us keep fishing and we stayed another 30 minutes. Great time.

Easy fishing, hard fishing & nice food. Great staff! - Excellent fishing experience able to catch & release baby Barra around 2kg which was easy and fun. The larger Barra were a bit of a challenge in a separate pond, a bit more sporting. I really wanted to catch a big one, but it was harder than I expected & lunch came, had the tasting plate which was lovely.

Great few hours fishing and learning about Barramundi. - What a great time ! Was fun catching the fish in the farm. The guides were great and very helpful . A very clean and well looked after Barra farm , fish are well looked after and the guides are more than happy to assist, even if you don’t know how to fish !

Fun Fish Day - Just went to Hook a Barra and did the transfer from Port Douglas. Michael picked jed us up and transferred us out to the barra farm. We learnt about the farm with an informative tour. Lunch was fabulous with lots of choice! Then, time to fish, we caught 2 each, and the guys are great at supervising and helping.

Fantastic way to spend the arvo - I took my two young sons (5 and 7 years old) there yesterday, and had THE best time. The staff were super friendly, helpful and made sure we all caught loads of fish throughout our session. Honestly, I could not recommend this place more. An easy, perfect way of spending an hour (or more) with the kids, especially if you're looking for something a bit different to do whilst up here. My kids are hounding me to go there again before we head home, and I won't be surprised if we do. Five stars for Hook-A-Barra, no worries.

A fabulous experience all round!! - Hook-a-Barra was such a pleasant surprise!! We were hopeful it would be great, but it far exceeded our expectations and was well worth the money. We took our boys to catch their first Barra’s and they (and us) were not disappointed. We arrived around 2pm and enjoyed a delicious and fresh lunch. The Barra burgers and Fish Tacos were fantastic and so tasty! The boys then commenced their fishing experience and it was incredible right from the beginning. The staff went above and beyond to support both boys, who were ecstatic to catch a 92cm Barra each. We chose to catch and release, and will remember this experience for a long time to come. If you are after a great experience and want to catch an infamous Barra, then this is the place for you! If we were local, we would be back!! 5/5 stars from us!!
