Additional Information

In 2016, the Audain Art Museum was inaugurated by Michael Audain, a Vancouver-based real estate developer, and his spouse, Yoshiko Karasawa. The 56,000 sq. ft. structure, residing in Whistler, British Columbia, has been awarded a LEED certificate and was architected by the notable Patkau Architects.

The Museum’s fixed collection exhibits the artistry of British Columbia dating from the late 18th century to the contemporary era. The most notable piece in the collection is James Hart’s The Dance Screen (The Scream Too), deemed the most substantial modern cedar Dance Screen worldwide. Adding to the appeal are pivotal collections of First Nations masks from the 19th and 20th centuries, supplemented by art from distinguished Canadian artists such as Emily Carr, E.J. Hughes, and the globally appreciated photo-conceptual artists Jeff Wall and Stan Douglas.

Alongside the fixed gallery, the Museum features temporary exhibits of artwork sourced from Canada and overseas.

Native and local art is really good here - This is a really nice museum! Highly recommend this when you have an hour or two after other activities. I really like the native masks, bronze sculptures, and the gallery for auction on the top floor.

Stunning gallery you must visit! - I have seldom visited a gallery where the majority of the exhibits held my attention so well. This is an outstanding collection in a stunning gallery in a magical location.

Well curated. - Ikeda's Exhibition was excellent. We enjoyed its scope very much. I had a chance to talk to the artist for a short while but it was great.

Impressive artwork - We had the pleasure of visiting this museum during artist Manabu Ikeda's exhibit and also while he was in studio working on his art. Suggest to check the museum's website for his studio hours. The exhibit is incredible and we feel so lucky to have seen him at work. The rest if the museum's exhibit is also wonderful. What a gem to have this art in Whistler.

This was my fourth visit to the Audain. It is my favourite museum in BC, and the Dempsey Bob show is outstanding. - Takao Tanabe, Dempsey Bob, James Hart, Gathy Falke all in one place, who could ask for more. The museum is beautiful, to say nothing of the art. The attention to detail, the setting, and the collection make for a perfect experience.

Highly recommend.beautiful museum, very serene, with wonderful gift shop - The building itself is worth a visit- it is very Zen. As we went in on a hot day, we appreciate the coolness and calmness of the green view from beautiful wooden architecture. The art collection on Canadian paintings, and indigenous art (of western region) were definitely worth seeing. I want to go again. Also gift shop has amazing collection of silver jewellery.

interesting art and a new artist to follow - This museum is much bigger than it looks! The permanent exhibit was interesting, but we absolutely fell in love with the temporary exhibit (Manabu Ikeda: Flowers from the Wreckage). A great surprise!
