Additional Information

We head towards the Mount Victoria Lookout, driving through Courtenay Place and past the Embassy Picture Theatre, renowned for premiering two globally recognized films; The Return of the King from The Lord of the Rings (2003), and The Hobbit’s first film An Unexpected Journey (2012), to capture panoramic views of Wellington city.

Subsequently, we journey towards the Hobbiton Woods, famously known as the initial shooting location for the iconic trilogy. It was the setting for the Shortcut to Mushrooms scene, the Second Breakfast of Sam and Frodo, the ‘Get off the Road’ scene where the Hobbits hid from the Black Rider, the Race to the Buckleberry Ferry sequence, and King Théoden’s Dunharrow Encampment.

Following this, we venture to the renowned Weta Workshop located in Miramar for an exclusive backstage tour. You will witness the crafting of props and weapons and perhaps meet the artisans.

At Weta Cave, seize the opportunity to see, and photograph yourself with, characters such as Gollum, Lurtz the Uruk-hai, and Bilbo’s three Trolls.

To conclude the tour, we will take a scenic drive along the bays back to the city.

Great Half Day for LOTR Fans or Not - We were struggling to decide if we will do a full or half day tour. While we did have some regrets of not going on the full day, the half day's tour has totally fascinate us. Visiting the movie set, the well executed tour to the WETA Workshop is super eye opening. Everyone should really do this tour. We enjoyed every bit of it.

Best day ever! - We had SO MUCH FUN!!! Ah there wasn't a single complaint about this tour. It was exciting to see the actual sword of Saurmon and his armor not only that but to see where they filmed the famous "Get off the road!" scene and walk down the path they used to escape the Nazghoul was just chefs kiss. When we come back we are definitely doing the full day tour.
