Island Escapade: A Day of Shopping, Sightseeing, and Sun in St. Thomas
When the ocean calls, I answer. Trading my surfboard for a day of exploration, I embarked on the Shop, See, & Splash Godfrey Tours in St. Thomas. With a mix of shopping, sightseeing, and beach bliss, this adventure promised a taste of island life I couldn’t resist.
Setting Sail on a New Adventure
As a former professional surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s call, and living in the Caribbean has only deepened my connection with the sea. When I heard about the Shop, See, & Splash Godfrey Tours experience in St. Thomas, I knew it was time to trade my surfboard for a day of exploration. The promise of shopping, sightseeing, and a beach escape was too tempting to resist.
The day began with a seamless pickup right at the port, a convenience that set the tone for the rest of the adventure. Godfrey, our guide, was a master at navigating the island’s vibrant streets and hidden gems. Though it was a Sunday, and many shops were closed for morning church services, the open ones offered a delightful taste of local culture. For those less inclined to shop, a couple of open bars and restaurants provided a perfect spot to sip on a refreshing drink and soak in the island vibes.
A Scenic Journey Through History
Our journey continued with a scenic tour that promised breathtaking views and a touch of history. While we didn’t stop at the Mafolie Hotel, Godfrey made sure to point out the legendary Bluebeard and Blackbeard’s pirate castles as we explored downtown Charlotte Amalie. The tales of these infamous pirates added a layer of intrigue to the already captivating landscape.
The tour took us to the highest point on the island, where the famous rum daiquiri awaited. Sipping on this iconic drink while overlooking the stunning vistas of Hassel Island, Water Island, and even the distant St. Croix was a moment to savor. The view from Sir Francis Drake’s seat, overlooking Magens Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, was nothing short of spectacular.
Beach Bliss at Coki
The final leg of our adventure led us to the beach, and I opted for Coki Beach over the more popular Magens Bay. The choice was perfect. The water at Coki was a mesmerizing shade of blue, and the beach was blissfully uncrowded. It was the ideal spot to unwind and let the gentle waves wash away any lingering stress.
As a lover of island cuisine, I couldn’t resist trying the jerk chicken at the beachside restaurant. To my delight, it was the best I’ve had, rivaling even the flavors of Jamaica. The combination of sun, sea, and savory delights made for an unforgettable experience.
Reflecting on the day, the only hiccup was a minor mix-up at the start, but it was quickly resolved, and the rest of the tour unfolded without a hitch. The Shop, See, & Splash Godfrey Tours experience was a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion. It’s a journey I’d recommend to anyone looking to explore the beauty and history of St. Thomas.
