  • National World War I Memorial - The National World War I Memorial is a national memorial commemorating the service rendered by members of the United States Armed Forces in World War I. The 2015 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the World War I Centennial Commission to build the memorial in Pershing Park, located at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. The park, which has existed since 1981, also contains the John J. Pershing General of the Armies commemorative work. In January 2016, the design commission selected the submission “The Weight of Sacrifice”, by a team consisting of Joseph Weishaar, Sabin Howard, Phoebe Lickwar, and GWWO Architects, as the winning design,[1] which is expected to be completed by 2024.[2]

  • Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial - Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial
Located to the south of the National Mall, the national memorial is set in a park-like plaza, with large columns framing a mesh tapestry depicting the site of the Normandy landings, and sculptures and bas-reliefs arrayed in the park. Architect Frank Gehry designed the memorial and Sergey Eylanbekov sculpted the bronze statues of Eisenhower in various settings. The memorial’s tapestry artist was Tomas Osinski, and the inscription artist, Nicholas Waite Benson.
On October 25, 1999, the United States Congress created the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission, and charged it with creating “…an appropriate permanent memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower…to perpetuate his memory and his contributions to the United States.” The preliminary design proved controversial. After several years of hearings and several design changes by Gehry, final design approvals were given in 2017, when dignitaries held a groundbreaking ceremony at the four-acre site.

Good tour, gives you a good overview of the historical places, then you can decide which ones to return to - Dr. Ali Zohery has a lot of knowledge about the history of the city and shares it during the entire trip, so you learn a lot about Washington and the history of the US in a short time. The tour covers the all the major monuments + the Capitol building, the White House, a trip down the national mall so you can see the Smithsonian museums. It's a good tour to do at the beginning of your trip, so that you can decide which places to return to. Unfortunately, you cannot drive uop to the Jefferson Memorial nor the MLK memorial so you have to walk across the avenue if you want to see those.

We wish there was a recorded narrative - The tour itself was nice because you don’t have to drive yourself around the part we missed out on was all of the narrative because we could not understand our tour guide because of his extremely thick accent. He was a very nice man, and I think very well educated, but since we couldn’t understand anything, he was saying it was just very very difficult to figure out what we were supposed to do and any of the history that was talked about

Bad deal! - The day tour guide was very knowledgeable and had some great information. The tour guide to Mt. Vernon was horrible. Very little information, brusque manners. While dropping one group off at the Hard Rock (not the departure site), he practically dumped us off at a random corner saying we were halfway to our drop off site. We had told him four times to take us back to the end. My husband has a bad hip and is a reluctant walker, especially after walking around Mt. Vernon. We finally just got off the bus instead of arguing with him and had to get a taxi back to our hotel. Truly an awful experience.
