Highlights
  • Alexandria Visitors Center - We start at the Ramsay House and discuss the origins of Alexandria, Virginia. William Ramsay was a Scottish merchant and good friend of George Washington. He was one of the founders of Alexandria. This first stop contains one of our favorite hidden gems. Hint: It’s hiding in plain sight!
  • Alexandria City Hall & Market Square - We talk about the fascinating architecture of Alexandria’s City Hall. It was rebuilt in 1874. Most people walk past the front of City Hall without noticing many of its unique features.
  • Hollensbury Spite House - The story of the famous Spite House will be told. We will see the famous house and make sure guests can take pictures!
  • Alexandria’s Christ Church - Discover where George Washington went to church in Alexandria. You can even sit in his pew.
  • Captain’s Row - One of Alexandria’s classic cobblestone streets. Fun and fascinating history to include one of Alexandria’s largest fires. We will discuss why it is called Captain’s Row. This will be the last stop on the tour and we will take pictures and be close to great restaurants!
  • Carlyle House - Travelers will discover where the American Revolution was born. No kidding! Twenty years before the Revolutionary War started, events were in motion that would lead to the American colonies declaring independence.

Genuinely Informative; Genuine Guide - A genuinely wonderful way to learn more about Alexandria’s important role throughout America’s formative years from Tim, who clearly cares about his audience and Alexandria’s history. He made connections with each member of the group, including each of our kids (15,12,8). He chooses elements of the area’s history as it intersects with Washington, the Revolutionary War as well as the Civil War. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful tour - It was our first time in Old Alexandria and decided to take the tour. Wayne was our guide. He was so cordial, super friendly and made the tour an amazing experience. I told him that I never liked history when I was younger and he commented, that it is the way the story is told. If he would have been my history teacher, I would have loved history!

Amazing for visitors and locals alike! - We took a group of 35 visiting German exchange students on this tour to learn about the Civil War and slavery in America. Our tour guide was absolutely amazing, and moved at a good pace that worked with our requested timeframe. He event got to take us inside of Christ Church to see George Washington’s pew! A lot of students were taking pictures, and some were asking great questions. The tour guide was very communicative and gave the group some information they specifically asked about the slave trade in Alexandria. I would highly recommend this walking tour for any out of town guests, or even locals seeking to learn more about the rich history in the area. I, as a local, was able to learn so much and see amazing landmarks that I had driven/walked by for years and never knew were significant. Such a great tour!
