The history of Alexandria, Virginia, is closely intertwined with the origins of the United States. Born on Pope Creek Plantation in Westmoreland County, Virginia, George Washington lived a stone’s throw away from the Potomac River. His family relocated between two residences - Ferry Farms in Fredericksburg and Little Hunting Creek Plantation, currently known as Mount Vernon, over time. The country’s inaugural president began as a surveyor, with Alexandria being one of the first towns he surveyed and drew out. This walking tour of Alexandria allows you to trace the cherished city of George Washington.
