Highlights
  • The National Council of Negro Women - The Headquarters of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) is a historic building located in Washington D.C., United States. The NCNW was founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune, an educator and civil rights leader, to promote the rights and welfare of African American women and their families. The organization has been headquartered in the same building since 1953 and it has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.

The building is located at 633 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, in the heart of the nation’s capital, just a few blocks from the White House. The building was originally constructed in the late 19th century as a commercial office building. In 1942, the building was purchased by the National Council of Negro Women with the help of a loan from the Federal Housing Administration.

What a great tour - Learning about the past wrongs to the black peoples and the struggles that they endured. Learning about the activists and womanists who fought for human rights and equality. It was emotional and humbling. The Museum says it all in one amazing space!

Birthday Fun in DC! - I had a very nice time on this tour. I decided to treat myself on my birthday 3/2 to do a tour of DC. I made a very good decision because KB Tour was on point. My experience opened up a network of wanting to do and see more of Washington DC. Althought it was a rainy day for the first couple of hours everyone on the van had a great time! Mr. Burris is very detailed and a historian on Dc. I’ve learned a lot from this tour. I’m looking forward to taking my parents on this same trip with KB Tours!

Great Tour for your DC Girls’ Trip - We greatly enjoyed our tour. We were originally scheduled for a night tour but Mr. Kenny called the morning of our tour and offered us to take the day tour the next day due to inclement weather that night. We thought that was polite of KB Tours and showed real character. Mr. Kenny is very knowledgeable about the history of African Americans in Washington, DC and would recommend this company to others when visiting. He even suggested a hidden gem to have lunch after our tour. The food was delicious! KB Tours went above and beyond showing us top African American sites in DC and glad we booked with them!

Exceeds expectations of awesomeness!! - Kenny, the tour operator, is knowledgeable and personable. I learned so much about another side of DC and I already knew a lot. The Shaw neighborhood, Howard University turf, and the White House are just a few of the areas visited. The pièce de résistance is the Frederick Douglass Mansion. What a marvelous, well-maintained historical artifact. Excellent tour that I highly recommend.

Had potential but fell short - The tour started 15 minutes late because the bus wasn’t there. That’s OK tho because the only people there who looked like they were ready to take people on a tour was a different tour company. I finally figured out where we were supposed to board on my own because the guide didn’t seem too interested in finding people. There was no check-in (why use QR codes if nobody scans them) the guy just asked for my name and when I gave it to him he sauntered off. When I asked if this was the right tour he courtly says “yeah” and walk off again. I guess clairvoyance is required for this operator. The tour starts and the driver doesn’t know where he’s going. The guide has to keep stopping his presentation to give him directions. By the end of the tour this got contentious. More on that later but those two should not work together again. Between the driver not knowing what in the heck he was doing and the tour guide getting to the point that he just didn’t give a hoot anymore, it was not enjoyable. For the first part of the tour we were always ahead of schedule but even still we were always being hustled through venues. By mid-trip we got to spend like 10 mins at the Lincoln memorial and 15 at MLK. I mean, c’mon man. There was barely enough time to go look and take a pic before we had to get back on the bus. And good luck if you have to use the bathroom. Anyway, by the end of the trip the guide and driver were arguing with each other. Traffic was bad, yes, but we got dropped off over a half-mile (I checked on GPS) from the AA History museum after our guide and driver bickered for the last 15 minutes and had to walk. My wife and I are middle aged but in good shape but there were some older folks and people in not so good shape that I don’t think appreciated the hike. So what this all sums up to is our 3.5 hour tour would up taking almost 5 hours JUST to get to the AA History museum which we were too exhausted to really give our full effort and attention to. After another 1.5 hours at the museum we were toast and gave up. We’ll go back again someday and see the rest on our own. Sad part - the venues themselves were amazing. It’s an incredible city and that tour could have knocked our socks off if not for some unfortunate circumstances.

Horrible tour guide - The tour was ok. The tour guide was extremely rude, I called at 7am for more info whoever picked up phone yelled at me saying they weren't opened and he thought my call was an emergency, don't think it was professional for he and the driver to have a disagreement in front of the passengers also our last stop was the African American Museum we were told this is the end meaning they weren't taking us back to the pick-up spot. That doesn't make sense 🤷🏾 we walked back to pick up car.

Terrible Experience with Kenny - Where do I begin… our trip that was scheduled for Friday was canceled and moved to Saturday. The tour guide called and said if he came on Saturday then he would pick us up from our hotel and take us to the airport after. He was pleasant on the phone. In person, he was extremely rude and condescending not only to me but multiple other tourists and the driver. In fact, he and the driver got into multiple arguments in front of us. His name is Kenny and he needs to learn better people skills and patience if his job is a tour guide. The stops are super quick. Thankfully we explored the days before our tour so we saw 75% of what the tour included otherwise I would have been highly upset. Definitely not worth the money and not worth the time. Worst tour of my life… if I could give zero stars I would. Also the bus needs maintenance… breaks are super squeaky. I would not recommend this tour. Find another African American History tour.
