The history of Goat Island is shared, along with an introduction to the marine life you might encounter at New Zealand’s first marine reserve. Prior to entering the water, a comprehensive safety briefing will be provided.
Everyone will proceed to the water to finalize their equipment. Once the gear is secured, the group will embark on the adventure. Equipped with a weight belt, participants will practice duck diving to get a closer look at the amazing marine life!
After the tour, participants can continue using the equipment for the rest of the day to further explore!

The adventure begins with guidance on advanced snorkeling techniques. Participants will learn about the history of the Leigh Coast, Goat Island Marine Reserve, and the Matheson Bay Rewilding Project. Additionally, an introduction to the marine life that may be encountered is provided.
In the Advanced group, participants will acquire extra skills, such as duck diving or freediving, to observe fish more closely.
With the oversight of a dive professional, participants will snorkel in the Goat Island Marine Reserve. The guide will ensure safety and comfort for all, regardless of experience level.
Participants will immerse themselves in a natural aquarium, bustling with vibrant fish and marine life, including blue maomao, large snapper, eagle and stingrays, blue cod, octopus, kahawai, and crayfish. Occasionally, dolphins or orcas visit the reserve and may interact with snorkelers, making it a potentially unforgettable experience!
