Additional Information

Cockburn’s expansive maturation warehouse, situated in Vila Nova de Gaia’s historic center, is the area’s largest. It accommodates a staggering 6,518 Port Barrels for aging under its vast roof, one of the only ones with a dedicated team of barrel-makers.

Cockburn’s Ports mature carefully within oak barrels and ferries under the watchful eyes of tasters and winemakers, ensuring they reach optimal maturity.

Due to its colossal size, Cockburn’s warehouse can store a significant quantity of Special Reserve for aging, which helps it develop its specific style and impeccable equilibrium. This is achieved through a longer period of wood aging compared to other Reserve Ports.

Great Introduction To The World Of Port Wine - Took the 90 minute tour including a tasting. Our guide, Manuel was very engaging and extremely knowledgeable. We learned a great deal about port and the history of the Cockburn brand. We finished off with the tasting, three very different port wines, paired with an appropriate chocolate truffle. The wines and the chocolates were outstanding

Splendid Tour - Good news, there are no restrictions on photography. Found the whole tour extremely interesting from start to finish. The host explained about the function of the different vats, The process of decanting from one to another and the reasons behind it. The coopers finish at 5pm so if you would like to watch them in action book you tour earlier. We were only able to see their workplace and hear about the dying skills! After the tour there were 3 glasses waiting to be tried complete with complimentary chocolate. No hard sell in the shop ant the end, in fact we decided to go back the next day to browse after making space in the car.
