Highlights
  • Via Pietro Micca, 1 - Landscape, interior or still life drawing and painting at a 19th century Piedmontese house in the middle of a wooded valley.

The activity is customisable, and participants can chose between a painting class, a drawing class or a combination of the two.

A standard session begins at 11am with coffee and sketching in charcoal, pastel and pencil from the garden and landscape (weather permitting) or interior spaces and studio if it’s wet. A drawing class would contine to develop drawings throughout the session.
Painting classes will also begin with some quick sketching before starting to paint.
At 12:30 we will break for a light lunch with local wine.
After lunch we will continue until 3:30, refining and finishing the work started in the morning.

Custom options would include specifying length and time of day; for example other available formats could be a morning class with a coffee break, or an afternoon session with coffee/aperitivo break.

Other things participants may wish to specify is whether the session is for relaxation, experimentation or skills training. The tutoring can be tailored accordingly.

Classes are open to complete beginners and seasoned artists alike.

Additional Information

Set amid serene forested hills, the activity is held within an artist’s residence and surrounding garden. The course can be customized based on your preferences, ranging from conventional painting and sketching styles to more avant-garde methods. Sessions may occur in the garden if the focus is on landscape art, or within the dedicated artist’s studio should the weather be unfavorable.

Your guide is a seasoned British artist with an international exhibition profile who relocated to Italy three years prior, seeking to cultivate a small creative sanctuary amidst the undulating hills of Monferrato.

While the duration of the session can be modified to fit your needs, it’s generally suggested that a 4-hour window works well. This allows ample time for meaningful work divided into two sections, accompanied by a pause for refreshments like tea, coffee, local wine, and a light meal.

There’s flexibility to arrange sessions that are more concise or extended.

  • Minimum age requirement for alcohol consumption is 18 years of age

Family art lessons in a beautiful setting - I can't recommend this experience enough. While staying in Italy, i wanted my 11 year old to have an opportunity to slow down. This was absolutely perfect. We spent 6 mornings having art lessons with Simon and it was definitely the right decision. Simon tailor-made our course for us so we could practice a range of techniques. We used charcoal, pencil crayons, pastels and water colour and we both learnt so much. Simon was so calm and patient and he helped us, as total beginners, feel completely at ease. It really was the perfect way to be "in the moment". The garden overlooking the valley was so peaceful and timeless, it felt like we had stepped into another life. We would love to go back!

Fun and painting in one package! - A really cool experience! Simon is a great teacher - I did not think it would be so much fun to try out painting! We did some preparatory sketches of the landscape in charcoal and pencil in the morning and then painted in the afternoon. Lots of useful tips on how to approach painting in a creative way. Lunch was pasta and caprese salad and a few glasses of local Cortese - all excellent. I recommend this to anyone if you are nearby! A great break from wine tasting and visiting churches.
