Highlights
  • Bioluminescent Mosquito Bay - This excursion is located on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. In order to participate in our tour, an overnight stay on Vieques is required. Vieques is a separate island off of the main island of Puerto Rico. You will need to take a plane or ferry from the main island of Puerto Rico to reach Vieques, and you will need to arrange separate ground transportation because you will not be able to bring a rental car on the ferry with you. Because we only offer tours at night so that our clients can experience the glow of the bay, even if you take our earliest tour, you will not be back to our meeting point with enough time to get on a ferry or a plane back to the main island on the same day. Our guides will meet you in Esperanza directly across from Rainbow Realty (278 Calle Flamboyan). Roundtrip from the meeting point, the excursion is 2 hours, time on the bay about 1.5 hours, weather permitting. We provide transportation from the meeting point to the Bio Bay entrance and back.
What's Included
  • Round trip transportation from the meeting point to the Bio Bay entrance
  • Guide
  • Paddle and Life Jacket

Worth it! - It was magical, I could’ve stayed out there all night if they let us! The starry sky and the fairy dust like water… truly beautiful. Our guide Lulu was great too and educated everyone on what we were seeing.

Amazing tour…highly recommend! - Our family had a wonderful trip, and I feel like it exceeded expectations on every front. Lulu was our guide and was very entertaining and informative. She made the trip for us. The bioluminescent bay did not disappoint. It was a highlight of our time on Vieques!

Lives up to the hype! - Lulu was a fantastic guide! Our group was small enough that we could stay together easily. There is a fair bit of kayaking involved, but they are 2 person kayaks, so my 10yo daughter and I were fine. Just stunning views! Hard to photograph but unforgettable experience!

Bioluminescence >>> - Amazing experience! Lulu was so informative and just being able to see how the water changes colors and glows is amazing. I would love to go again during a cloudy night.

Even though we went on... - Even though we went on the night before a full moon, we got lucky with cloud coverage and our guide Lulu had a tarp which we covered over our kayaks and it made the lights even brighter. It felt like we had a great amount of time to explore the area, and after educating and teaching us about the bioluminescent, we were given time to explore a little bit on our own, staying near the guides of course. An amazing experience, something you'd really have to see in person! I'll definitely be going back if I get the opportunity!

Wonderful experience (Diana and Lulu to the rescue) - Both Lulu and Diana did a wonderful job. This was our first kayaking and we were slow, both diana and lulu made sure that we are with the group. At one point we were lost and lulu came looking for us and in the return Diana helped us a lot to get back to the shore.

Awesome experience! Exceeded expectations - Lulu was a great guide, she was funny and gave us good explanations of this phenomenon and the nature of mosquito bay. Even tho the moon was almost full when we went out there, she had a great trick to help us see the full potential of the bioluminescence. I was expecting to see some light glowing in the water but it was a full firefly type phenomenon. I highly suggest this activity and to take it with Vieques Kayak for the price.

Good but not Great - Lasted less than 1 hour. Meet at 8:40 pm, start pre- tour talk at 8:55 pm, leave on bus at 9:15 down at very rocky road for 10 minutes. Wade through 5 feet of mud (not deep) and are aked to keep your shoes in the bus. We went on a night with a small moon but really needed a tarp over our heads to see anything. Kayaked for only 15 minutes, Lulu guide talked for about 20 minutes including tarp over our head. Then were told we could do what we wanted for 15 minutes. She accidentally left her laser in the bus so no discussion about the constellations. Guide was enthusiastic. Had glass bottom kayak but couldnt only faintely make out the "bioluminescent dionoflagettes". Communication with tour guide Lulu was great pre tour
