Simply fantastic! - Seaplanes are a Vancouver thing. Sorta like cable cars are to San Francisco, only a hundred times better .Harbour Air is not cheap, but this is really something you want to do at least once in your life. You go down to the seaplane base next to Canada Place, check in (it's easy and there's not TSA or CATSA here), enjoy some complimentary coffee and pastry, and then board your DeHavilland Otter seaplane. The plane holds about 15 passengers. One especially lucky person can sit in the cockpit, next to the pilot. The flight to Victoria takes about 35 minutes, the views are absolutely unforgettable, and you land in Victoria Harbour, just a few yards away from the Fairmont Empress Hotel and the iconic Legislative Building. You catch the bus from just in front of the Empress. The bus then takes you to Butchart Gardens - world famous and breathtaking as well. And the bus will take you back for your return trip. I can honestly say I haven't had so much fun, or seen so much beautiful scenery in many years. It was the best single day of vacation sightseeing I've ever had. Period. Several tips: 1) Take an early flight: 7am or 730am. If you are in peak season, Butchart Gardens is very, very busy. By flying down and taking the 9am bus, you will get there well ahead of the folks who took the ferry from Vancouver, and you will see more of the park without getting claustrophobic. 2) High tea at the Fairmont Empress with tax and tip will cost you $100CAD. It's less than half that at the Dining Room at Butchart Gardens, and you can opt for the regular lunch menu. It's not uncommon for a couple to split an entree - and to split ia single High Tea. 3) Victoria is a lovely town, and was the Capital of BC even before Vancouver was established. You might want to spend a little time in Victoria before you catch your flight back to Vancouver. Lots of fun shopping and food. Just do it. YOLO
