Eldheimar - Our next stop is the Eldheimar Museum, located in Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands), Iceland. This museum is dedicated to the 1973 volcanic eruption on Heimaey, which led to the evacuation of the entire population. Eldheimar Museum offers a unique opportunity to learn about the eruption, its impact on the community, and the recovery and rebuilding efforts that followed. The museum features interactive exhibits, artifacts from the eruption site, and personal stories from residents who lived through the event. Visitors can also explore a section of the town buried under volcanic ash, preserved as a reminder of the disaster. Eldheimar Museum provides a fascinating and educational experience for those interested in geology, history, and human resilience in the face of natural disasters.
-
Eldfell - After the museum visit, we’ll take a look at the volcano.

The reconstruction was completed in 1998 using traditional Icelandic building techniques and materials.
-
Elephant Rock - Be prepared to be amazed by the extraordinary Elephant Rock, a unique formation resembling an elephant. We’ll head to the southernmost tip of the island, where, weather permitting, we’ll glimpse the youngest land in the area—Surtsey Island. This land emerged from the ocean just half a century ago due to volcanic eruptions. In 2008, Surtsey was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, marking its significance as the youngest land on Earth. A hike through the beautiful Herjolfsdalur valley will lead us to restored Viking houses, offering a glimpse into the lives of the island’s early settlers.

Surtsey - View Surtsey Island, formed at the end of the 20th century, the youngest land.
-
Storhofdi (Great Cape) - Known as the windiest place in Europe, Heimaey is a haven for thousands of playful puffins. We’ll have the chance to observe these charming northern birds up close. Nesting alongside the puffins are guillemots, gannets, kittiwakes, and Icelandic gulls, creating a vibrant avian tapestry on the rocky cliffs. However, it’s the adorable puffins that have become the iconic symbol of the Westman Islands.
-

Brace yourself for an experience that will leave you in wonder as you explore the mesmerizing landscapes of Solheimajokull.
-
Dyrholaey - Our next destination is the captivating Dyrholaey peninsula, where the landscape beautifully complements the traditional white and red lighthouse. As we ascend to the cape’s summit, a breathtaking panorama unfolds—ocean waves crashing against a magnificent black rocky arch, through which ships and specialized amphibious vehicles pass.
