- Flam - 1 hour of free time in Flåm. This is reduced to 30 minutes from November 1st because the cruise and train have earlier departures. Flåm is the most popular village around the Aurlandsfjord and one of Norway’s top tourist destinations. The village has a tourism history dating back over 100 years when wealthy British tourists visited the fjords to fish for salmon in the rivers. Flåm is small, with around 400 inhabitants. However, in the high season, it can host over 10,000 visitors in a day! As you can imagine, it can get quite busy, as Flåm is not only a popular place to stay and visit but also the starting point for many tours and activities in the area.

Over the course of one hour, the train takes passengers from sea level at the Sognefjord in Flåm to the Myrdal mountain station, situated at 867 meters above sea level. Myrdal is also a station on the Bergen Line, meaning the Flåm Railway connects with trains running between Bergen and Oslo. The Flåm Railway is one of the steepest standard gauge railway lines in the world, with 80% of the journey running on a gradient of 5.5%.
