Beautiful demonstration... - Beautiful demonstration of glass blowing. With the majestic cathedral as a backdrop and the music playing, the audience can focus on the artistry of the glass blowing. A lovely way to spend an hour.

Great experience! - What a nice time we had. No pressure to buy only to enjoy the art of glass blowing. I loved the music in the back ground that added drama and charm to the glass blowers mastery. I was thinking that this felt like a glass blowing version of Hells Kitchen, only in the sense that there was a lot of flair and passion being demonstrated. Very interesting especially if you have kids as they will see an art that is very old yet still very much alive

The Glass Cathedral (Ex Chiesa di Santa Chiara) - Family - What a fantastic experience! Venice was the last stop on our first family trip to Italy. Our kids (9 & 12) had the opportunity to get a fun intro to glassblowing this winter, so Murano was certainly a stop on our list. Unfortunately my memories of the island from 25+ years ago was one of aggressive salespeople and monotony between the shops so I wanted to find something a little more interesting to keep the passion alive with the kids. We found some great reviews for the Glass Cathedral online, so while a bit pricier than other demonstrations, thought it would be worth a visit. I am so happy we did. First of all the building itself is an early 13th century historical marvel that has lived many lives from religious residence to industrial glass manufacturing to event space. The family who renovated the building into what it is now performed nothing short of a miracle creating a very inviting and interesting space to host any event. With glasses of prosecco or spritzes in hand, we settled in with a small group of various tourists to watch the show. Set to music for many parts, it was as much an exhibition of master glass blowing as it was a performance art piece. The show was about 30 minutes in length and kept all of us thoroughly engaged throughout with the highlight being our 9 year old allowed to participate in one of the demonstrations! Following the display we were able to explore the gallery and the building itself before leaving. Was a remarkable display of skill and artistry in an incredibly complementary atmosphere. (and no one tried to force me to buy a glass goldfish in a tiny bowl!)

Definitely worth the money and time! - Fun and informative performance. Interesting recording on the history of the building and the business. The "Maestro" glassmaker didn't talk his way through what he was doing, but it was interesting and pretty clear anyway. We had a great time

Great way to learn about glass blowing in Venice - Perfect way to see glass blowing. There are, apparently, lots of places on Murano that offer tours of their studios/workshops. But some of the reviews I read made me think that I would be put under pressure to buy pieces of glass in return for going on the tour. At the Glass Cathedral, the entire experience was interesting, enjoyable, and stress free. And there is no pressure to buy anything, although the pieces on offer are excellent. Our children enjoyed it. In fact our 8 year old ranked it as his favourite activity in Venice (just above a gondola ride).

Two hats problem affects quality - Skilled glassblower in an attractive space and with music. We saw how three pieces were made and our son was allowed to 'help' at the end. However, what really annoyed us was that people, including the own staff (not the glassblowers, but the reception and people who do the venue's event planning) are chatting all the time. The explanation is given via an audio recording. We couldn't understand a word of it. Moreover, the chatter detracts from the intimate and somewhat mystical atmosphere. We did not notice the warm welcome that we read about in the other reviews. There was only attention for those who wanted to book the location for an event.

Don't fall for it. - Very disappointing. A 20 minute display to produce a few items. Without a commentary or explanation of what was happening. There was a couple of interruptions by what appeared to be a friend of the demonstrator. He and another couple were given drinks when non were offered to the rest of the group. It seemed a very "them and us" situation. But the most annoying thing was that unbeknown to us there are free or much cheaper demonstrations on the island and this cost us £17 as an advance booking online for a set time. Only to find that people can walk in off the street into the different glass factories. We feel cheated. Don't fall for it like we did.
