- Harishchandra Ghat - This is one of the two cremation ghats, the other being Manikarnika Ghat. Hindus from various regions bring the bodies of their deceased relatives to Harishchandra Ghat for cremation. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that a person cremated at Harishchandra Ghat attains salvation or moksha.
- Assi Ghat - Legend has it that after Goddess Durga defeated the demons Shumbha-Nishumbha, she threw her sword into a river named Assi. This is the origin of the ghat’s name. While the evening aarti regularly attracts visitors, the ghat is particularly crowded during the months of Chaitya (March/April) and Magh (January/February).
