Additional Information

Experience Valencia’s very own ‘Sistine Chapel’. Nestled in the city center, this magnificent church, recently renovated and now open to the general public, is among the oldest religious edifices in Valencia.

Originally established over seven centuries ago, it once stood as a gothic temple, and has seen significant modifications over the years, resulting in the extraordinary exterior you see today. In the late 17th century, the interior walls underwent a dramatic transformation, becoming decorated with breathtaking artwork, entirely encapsulating them in a rich baroque style, leaving its international visitors awe-struck. The efforts of the Fundación Hortensia Herrero Maecenases lead to the restoration of more than 2000m2 of these captivating murals. Open from Tuesday through Sunday, your ticket to San Nicolas comes with an audioguide for a comfortable learning experience about this venerable church.

Beautiful Artwork - We went mid morning during the week to avoid the line ups. The church is beautiful. They have restored the colours - get the guided tour (head set) it explains each area of the church. Well worth the trip!!

Do not skip this Tour - To get overwhelmed upon stepping into the grandeur of this magnificent work of several artists, architects, & craftsmen is an understatement. 20,000 sq ft of frescoes, angels, poutees on every sides and base of a lunette; gilding to the hilt. This is Valencia’s version of the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel. The initial emotional impact upon setting foot inside, sets the tone to its well-scripted audio guide. I recommend getting the tickets in advance to avoid the queue. It is an experience to remember.

THE VALENCIAN SIXTINE CHAPEL - Known as the Valencian SIXTINE CHAPEL, the Parish of San Nicolás de Bari is an essential visit on the tourist tour of the Valencian capital. It is necessary to come with a prior visit since there is a large public interested in this masterpiece. During Holy Week and other notable dates in the Valencian festive and religious calendar, concerts and "musical meditations" are scheduled. Under the artistic direction of the Japanese organist Atsuko Takano, the programming is of a high musical level. You shouldn't miss them.

Spectacular Church - We were lucky enough to be able to visit this spectacular Church of rich ornamentation that many say is similar to the Sistine Chapel. If you are in Valencia it is a must visit. Highly recommended.

Too expensive - It costs too much for what there is to visit... the visit doesn't last long because the location is not large.... ...................... .........

Expensive and quickly over - Another Catholic church, with beautiful pictures, sculptures... But it is quickly over and it is rude to charge €11 for a visit. It's probably the current Catholic Church's attempt to extort money from visitors.

Visit that discourages you - The frescoes in the church have NOTHING TO DO WITH what is in the SISTINA CHAPEL. It's a shameful lie!!! The entrance fee is another shameful act!
