Highlights
  • Turiart - The city of Valencia boasts more than 21 centuries of history, dozens of monuments from every era and three World Heritage properties: the Silk Exchange (Lonja de la Seda), the Water Tribunal (Tribunal de las Aguas) and the Fallas (annual festival featuring ephemeral art, fire and fireworks). Few destinations in the world can boast three different cultural attractions on the prestigious UNESCO list.

This cultural walk covers Valencia’s most essential, must-see sites, with a professional guide sharing the city’s many stories.

The North Station, City Hall, Central Market, Silk Exchange, Queen’s Square, Virgin’s Square… Our steps will take us down the streets and through the squares of the Historic Centre, as we discover how this urban network has evolved over the centuries: from its Roman origins, through the Muslim period, the Christian era, and down to today.

We will enter the Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange), a masterpiece of Gothic civil architecture that was declared a World Heritage Site in 1996. The fabulous Trading Hall with its columns, vaults and ribs will transport us back to Valencia’s prosperous Golden Age.

The Water Tribunal, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008, is re-enacted every Thursday at noon at the Cathedral’s Door of the Apostles, while the Fallas was Valencia’s last addition to this UNESCO list, in 2016. These festivities are held between March 15 and 19, turning the city into an open-air museum of ephemeral monuments, accompanied by music, traditional attire and the scent of gunpowder.

Great tour of City Center, including Silk Exchange, with Sofie - We had a wonderful tour of the historic center of Valencia with Sofie, who was a fantastic guide! This included a trip inside City Hall, the historic train station, and of course a walk through the Silk Exchange and the original ancient central region of the city. Lots of wonderful history and perspective!

Totally Worth the Money - A great 2 hour overview of old town Valencia. Sofi did an amazing job of explaining the history, the buildings and interacting with us. (And keeping all 23 of us together!). No individual headsets but Sofi had a voice amplifier that worked well. This is an excellent way to start your first day in Valencia and become oriented with the city.

Avoid this tour; waste of time and money - For a tour advertised as an experience in English, the very least one expects is an English speaking guide. Not one who pauses at every phrase to think of the right choice of words. She walked too quickly for older members of the group and could not be heard by them at all from behind. While her local knowledge and insights were fine, it did not feel like time and money were well-spent at the end.

Not so hot - I think we need more history in this tour.. Valencia lost almost all its historical buildings during the spanish civil war and possibly also in ww2. Never mentioned. What history we did get was not on a historical continuum, We had 1 hour on “la falla” while standing in a square with no discussion of the history of the square, its sculptures or why it is so relatively new. I was interested to learn that Valencia was the first to create a place for the mentally ill, but why that occurred other than in a few minute speech by a bishop idk. Later we see roman ruins under a water thing. Seems to me we should have started there and then proceeded out on a historical continuum, could care less about a walk through the market where we almost lost some folks. I was let down and still am not sure what ornwhere the heritage sites are.

Extremely negative experience - Extremely disappointed with this tour. The operator failed to change the start point even with the downtown being closed due to a marathon. He then spent most of his time on his phone trying to contact people who could not reach the start point. When we finally did go on his tour almost completely consisted of information on the fires. He was obviously passionate about that but no local history, no architecture tips, nothing. We finally left the tour early. We requested a refund from Viator on this as this was the worst tour experience we have ever had in over 7 years of using Viator and their response was to deny the request as the operator said they did the tour in its entirety. Do not recommend this tour or this operator.
