Additional Information

Pulacayo is situated 20 kilometers from Uyuni, and here lie the inaugural locomotives that came to Bolivia in 1980, connecting Antofagasta, Uyuni, Pulacayo, and Huanchaca.

Nowadays, it stands as a quaint town, preserved as a living museum, home to the earliest engines that made their way into the nation, the mute testaments to what once was among the most significant areas in the country due to the mining activities. The mines we encounter here are of great antiquity and currently lie dormant and unworked.

Better than Salt Flats - The trip was amazing. It’s a short drive from Uyuni. The town looks awesome, it looks like a movie set. The train cars from the Butch Cassidy and Sundance kid shootout are even here! Ton of history here. Fascinating stories with an unbelievable guide. Couldn’t recommend this tour enough. We actually enjoyed it more than the salt flats!
