As the sun began its ascent over the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, I found myself in the back of a luxury 4x4, heading towards the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. The anticipation was palpable, not just because of the adventure that lay ahead, but because I was about to engage in an ancient art that has been practiced for centuries—falconry. My guide for the day, Werner, was a fountain of knowledge and enthusiasm, setting the tone for what promised to be an unforgettable experience.

The drive to the reserve was a journey in itself. With Dave the Kestrel and Khaimah the greater spotted eagle as our travel companions, the excitement was infectious. Werner’s expertise shone through as he demonstrated both traditional and modern falconry techniques, sharing fascinating insights into the history and significance of this ancient practice. After the exhilarating falconry session, we made our way to the Al Maha Desert Resort for a well-deserved breakfast. The resort, nestled amidst the dunes, offered a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The breakfast spread was a feast for the senses, with a variety of dishes that catered to every palate. It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on the morning’s adventures.

The final leg of our journey took us to the Falcon and Heritage Museum, where we delved deeper into the rich history and cultural significance of falconry in the region.
