Additional Information

Mongolian shamanism encapsulates an integrated system of beliefs which comprise medicine, religion, nature worship, and ancestor veneration. In the 13th century, the chief shaman endorsed Genghis Khan as the embodiment of Mongke Koko Tengri (the ‘Eternal Blue Sky’), the Mongols’ paramount deity. This divine recognition made it accepted that his fate was global dominion. The Mongol Empire advocated religious freedom; nonetheless, challenging the Great Khan was tantamount to resisting God’s will. Central to this belief system were male and female mediators, Shamans (böö) and Shamanesses (udgan), who bridged the human and spirit worlds. However, they weren’t the sole communicators with the spiritual realm. Both nobility and common folk performed spiritual roles. The hierarchical structure of the Clan-based Mongolian society was mirrored in their worship practices.

The Shaman gets in touch... - I have never done anything like this before and went with an open-mind. The Shaman made contact with my heavenly father and told me specific things about him and my childhood. The Shaman was able to tell me things about my married life, my property, my pets and my health! I had an amazing experience! 🙂🇲🇳

Must do experience in Ulaanbaatar - This is a fantastic personal experience and a great insight into the role of spirituality in Mongolian peoples lives. Bachi was a great guide being able to explain everything about the afternoon - the history of shamanism, the current relevance and what to expect during the ritual. We spent time in a ger, ate a home made lunch and had the best time. Bachi also helped us experience horse mare's milk and vodka made from cow's milk. Will never forget this day - thanks Bachi.

Well-organised, unique and memorable experience - A fascinating insight into Mongolian spirituality and shaman culture. The guide was extremely helpful in giving context on meeting the shaman, and expertly translated during our interactions. Well worth doing during a stay in Ulaan Bator.

Ancient Tengrism is alive - If you're the kind of person interested in ancient spirituality and shamans, don't hesitate to book. Mongolia might be the best place in the world for an experience like this. The shaman knew about my unborn son! And I certainly hadn't mentioned that beforehand. And it's not all just telling you what you want to hear - I got a lot of positive fortune, but the people on the tour with me were told some very harsh truths. By the way, photo/video is allowed these days, but never used to be - so don't hesitate to bring your camera. Great experience!

Spirit encounter. - The energy I felt and the connection I had with the Shaman's guiding spirit gave me a special feeling that is very hard to explain.

An experience like few others - Outstanding experience. I went mainly for the photo ops, but when the shaman started telling me things about my life that he couldn't possibly know, I started paying attention. Fascinating afternoon. And my guide, Bachi Nyanga, was first rate — smart, knowledgeable, and brimming with stories about Mongolia and the history of shamanism. Even bought his book "Spiritual Thinking: An introduction to spirituality and shamanism" on Amazon the next day.

Must try it! Mongolians have it down. - This was truly a beautiful way to experience first-hand the culture and a really great way to understand Mongolia. It was a fascinating experience that I would recommend once in a lifetime. Bachi- is very personable and truly cares about his guest. Would recommend for a birthday or honeymoon. Celebrated heritage & learned a lot about various shaman traditions.

Consider other experience options. - I did this solo, and therefore it cost me $200. It was not worth that price. Experience included a meal, which was a bowl of rice with very poor quality meat. I had mentioned I was vegetarian in my comments during booking. No drink was provided. The ger (yurt) where this was conducted was very dirty. Pictures from the description may lead you to believe the event is conducted somewhere out in nature, but it’s not. The location was an extremely poor area of Ulaanbaatar and the ger was set up in the fenced in yard/compound where the shaman lived. I do not recommend this experience. If the provider could improve the cleanliness and the meal provided, especially given the cost, I would have been able to rate higher.

Terrific Shaman, Terrible Organization and Communication - Shaman was terrific, organization was horrible! No guide, interpreter was brand new and was unable to translate Shaman’s comments! Also, confusion about lunch- never had it, driver did not speak English. It could have been great but communication was awful. Cannot recommend.
