Chittor, also known as Chittaurgarh, is a charming city and municipality in the Rajasthan state of western India. Founded by Bappa Rawal in the 8th century, Chittaurgarh is situated at an elevation of 408 meters (1339 feet) above sea level. The city lies on the banks of the Gambhiri and Berach rivers. Notable figures such as the 16th-century poet Mirabai and Rani Padmini hail from Chittaurgarh.
The route to Chittaurgarh Fort is a winding road safeguarded by seven fortified gateways. In 1534, the fort was besieged by the Sultan of Gujarat. Again, in 1568, it was the site of a four-month siege by the Mughal forces of Akbar, who eventually captured the fortress. Chittaurgarh Fort is perched atop a rocky hill, 151 meters (495 feet) high and 4828 meters (3 miles) long. It is one of India’s largest fortresses and dominates the city’s skyline, symbolizing local pride and loyalty.
Travelers will be returned to their hotel upon arrival back in Udaipur.
