Highlights

When in Bali you simply must view three of the most famous dances in the country. Sanghyang (Trance) Dance, Kecak (Monkey Dance) and the Fire Dance are three performances that will truly make your visit to Bali more special. Taken from the Hindu epic Ramayana, the Kecak dance is perhaps the most dramatic. The dance tells the story of Prince Rama and his rescue of Princess Sita, performed with a troupe of over 50 bare-chested men who serve as the chorus.

There are dozens of different dances - all part of the fascinating Balinese cultures. This tour takes you to the village of Batabulan to see three dances.

Kecak (Monkey) Dance - Performed by a group of at least 50 men who dance in a circle around blazing bamboo torches. Possibly the most dramatic of the 3 dances, it has been taken from the Hindu epic Ramayana, the dance tells the story of Prince Rama and his rescue of Princess Sita, who has been kidnapped by the evil King of Lanka. The chorus of men, who provide the orchestral accompaniment with complex and varied chants that company their swaying movements. The only music to accompany them are the beats of their palms hitting their chests, their thighs, or other parts of their bodies, or their claps, rhythmically accompanied by shouting and chanting. Flickering torches provide lighting and an enchanting atmosphere.

Fire Dance - Where the dancer becomes entranced and is able to dance on hot coals without feeling pain.

Saghyang (Trance) Dance - Traditional performed as an exorcism to promote peace and health within the village.

After the dance performances your guide will be happy to drop you at a local restaurant of your choice, close to your hotel, or back to your hotel.

On Fire - Great experience. Exciting dance and story. Loved the fire and the Monkey King. The sunset over The Indian Ocean was spectacular and worth the climb. Cool evening breeze. Watch out for the naughty monkeys and keep your valuables close. Highly recommend

A MUST SEE!!!! - What a beautiful Ceremonial dance with a love story to boot. The constant chanting and hypnotic singing coupled with the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. Get seated early as all seats are not numbered so it's first in best dressed. This takes place at the Uluwatu Temple. Dress appropriately (ladies cover up) you will be asked to wear traditional skirt and belt as a sign of respect on top of your clothes. Don't go if you don't want to respect the Indonesian's culture. Be aware that the sunset takes place at exactly the same time as the Kecak fire dance (pronounced Ke-chuck) and the awesome thing is where you are seated you can see both. Loved Loved Loved it.

We were picked up from the hotel and... -
We were picked up from the hotel and the guide insisted on coming early. He had a driver with him which was a bit odd. We ended up waiting for the place to open for at least an hour. The show was different and also a bit scary with the Fire Dance. It was interesting to see.

Dance was great but the tour guide was USELESS! - Don’t waste your time or money booking this tour - get the ticket when you’re there and enjoy the dance because this tour operator does not deliver! The female tour guide did not even introduce herself. She met us at the entrance, handed us a piece of paper with details of the dance (we could not read it in the dimly lit venue), took a pic of us with a dancer (the dancer takes a pic with anyone who wants one taken so it is not by special arrangement), told us to sit anywhere, pointed to the exit and left. She did not even bother to see if we were comfortably seated or explained the dance to us( our driver did this on the way back to the hotel) or ensured that we left safely. We felt ripped off and I will never use this tour operator again!!!
