Highlights

Day 1 | 6 Kilometres

Cape Range National Park - We pick you up from your accommodation between 8.00-8.30 am. Then It’s off to our rendezvous point to fit you out for your overnight trek, then make our way to Cape Range National Park, stopping off at Milyering Visitor Centre for a quick break before our trek begins. Once at our start point, it’s time for a safety brief and to ensure our packs are snug.

Our first steps take us alongside picturesque Yardie Creek Gorge; as we ascend the Range, we keep a keen eye out for the rare Black Flanked Rock Wallabies and the myriad of birdlife that call this place home. It’s not long at all till we glance back and enjoy sweeping views of Ningaloo Reef and Cape Range stretching away into the distance.

We spend the rest of the day exploring the upper reaches of Yardie Creek and make our way to the top of the Range to camp.

Ningaloo - Camp

Once packs are off, camp is set, and meals cooked, we spend the evening spotting for Humpback Whales and enjoy the changing colours as the sun sets below the horizon. You will never forget your night in this remote corner of Western Australia, atop Cape Range overlooking Ningaloo Reef and the Indian Ocean with the Milky Way above.

Day 2 | 8 Kilometres

Ningaloo Reef - Rising with the sun, we enjoy a hearty breakfast and continue with our adventure. Making our way down through ancient wave-cut sandstone terraces, we cross the coastal plains where it’s not uncommon to see Western Grey Kangaroos, Dingoes, or perhaps the shy but spiky Short Beaked Echidna.

Once over the coastal dunes, it’s not long till our boots are off, and we’re swimming in the refreshing crystal clear waters of the Ningaloo lagoon. We then beach-comb our way along pristine coastline and back to our waiting vehicle to deliver us safely back to Exmouth.

Unique experience - Very well organised trek at a relaxed pace, allowing us to absorb the stunning scenery and wildlife. We loved sleeping under the stars, in a spectacular, isolated location with a full moon rising. Special memories.

Kid-Friendly Camping Adventure in Exmouth - My son (10 years old) and I had an incredible first-time camping experience with Trek Ningaloo. Ian was a fantastic guide who shared lots of information on the history, flora, fauna and geography of the area. The trip was very educational and my child was interested and engaged the entire time. It was clear that much thought went into the two-day itinerary and the items we carried in our packs. Ian and I carried most of the items from my son’s backpack to lighten his load, but it was still very manageable for me. The hikes were just the right distance to experience multiple terrains and feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. We traveled half-way around the world to swim with Ningaloo’s whale sharks, but it was this camping trip that we will remember most. I highly recommend this trip for adventurous families!

Beautiful Overnight range hike - Had the best experience with Ian and Erin from Trek Ningaloo! Their knowledge and appreciation for the country is inspiring and the walk itself highlights the best of the range with incredible views over the reef. If you get the opportunity to go on a hike, absolutely do it. Such a special trip, I can’t wait to go again!

A special way to see Cape Range National Park - We had such an amazing experience! Camping up high on the magnificent range overlooking the beautiful Ningaloo reef was a real highlight. The view from camp at sunset was stunning and the star gazing at night was spectacular. There was no one else around, it felt like we had the whole National park to ourselves. We spotted whales and many rock wallabies. Ian was a fantastic guide. He is very passionate and had so much knowledge of the area, the history and the flora and fauna. Ian has included so many thoughtful touches to the trek that really made it special. I would highly recommend this experience !

10/10 trek - Amazing experience!! Erin and Ian are absolute legends and took us on an awesome trek. Their knowledge of the routes, local area and wildlife is fantastic and I learnt lots on our adventure. It was great to be immersed in nature in places where few people have been before. The views were epic and we covered so many terrains of the Cape range national park from pindan to bush, gorge to dunes! I can’t recommend this tour enough - incredible experience and a wonderful way to experience Ningaloo terrestrially. There are as many treasures on land as there are underwater in this beautiful part of the world.

Amazing! - The 2 day trek was perfect for seeing the beauty of Exmouth in its entirety. Favourite parts were watching the sunset on day 1 and a run down the dunes and swim in the sea on day 2. Definitely a must when visting Exmouth. Can't wait to come back and do another trek next time. Thanks Ian!

Wow! What an adventure! - What an amazing adventure the Sunset Reef and Range Overnight Loop was! We had been looking forward to this trek our entire trip, and it exceeded our expectations! The landscape was just stunning, and portrayed the real essence of Ningaloo - red earth, green shrubbery, white sand, and iconic turquoise waters. We even spotted some kangaroos and rock wallabies, and caught an incredible sunset at the campsite before staring up at the Milky Way sharing stories. Ian was fantastic - his passion, knowledge and hospitality topped off the experience! If you’re looking for something off the beaten track, we couldn’t recommend this trek more! Thanks Ian, an experience we will never forget! Rach and Alex, Sydney.

A Truly Awe Inspiring Experience!! - On completing the two day trek, I cannot recommend Trek Ningaloo highly enough! Being immersed within the World Heritage Area offered unique and unforgettable perspectives of the beautiful Ningaloo. The experience was the perfect balance of challenge and tranquility; climbing scarps and gullies, spotting wildlife and camping under the stars. Ian’s expertise and passion ensured we got the most out of both days, including his abundant knowledge of the area’s history and ecosystems. Of note, we chose to undergo the trek despite a rainy forecast. Ian insured we made it to the campground with plenty of time and remained safe, dry, cosy and well fed for the entirety of the trip! The sky show was an absolute bonus! A truly awe inspiring experience!! Thanks again 😄
