Highlights
  • Sian Ka’an - After passing the entrance to the Sian Ka’ an Biosphere, the guide will give an introductory tour on the biosphere. After driving for another 30 to 40 minutes on an unpaved BUMPY ROAD (this is an adventure!) you will board a boat in order to explore the coastal lagoons and marine ecosystems that characterize Sian Ka’an, and discover the fauna and flora that lies within it.
IF the weather allows it, we jump into the water to snorkel on a section of the barrier reef system, home to thousands of aquatic species. Later on, we visit a beautiful sandbank the locals call “nature’s swimming pools”, where we take time to relax & swim. In the town of Punta Allen, located at the tip of the headland overlooking the bay, we have a local lunch and take some time to relax.

Additional Information

Sian Ka’an is among the most expansive conservation zones in Mexico, home to an impressive assortment of flora and fauna. The optimal way to explore Sian Ka’an is via a boat journey, where one can traverse different maritime and coastal ecosystems which are the dwelling for an array of wild bird species, turtles, dolphins, manatees, and the prized fish species of the Mesoamerican reef. The package comprises transport from Tulum, lunch in Punta Allen and snorkeling gear. The snorkeling excursion is contingent on the ocean conditions, which can sadly not always be predicted until we arrive at the sea. Wonderful experience immersed in nature - Magnificent day in the company of our guides, Nikita and Martin, who showed us the wonders of this corner of Mexico. We spotted crocodiles, dolphins, turtles, rays, pelicans, frigate birds, herons and a host of other birds. It was not possible to snorkel due to sea conditions, but this did not detract from the beauty of the day. Excellent lunch in Punta Allen, where we also had free time to explore the beach and the village. Thanks to the preparation of Nikita and Martin, we had a wonderful day learning many things about the Sian Ka'an reserve. Special thanks also to Axel, our driver, who was punctual and impeccable.

Shian ka'an reserve - What an exceptional day in the Sian Ka'an reserve! Everything went exactly as promised on the website. The boat was comfortable, the captain very nice and incredibly knowledgeable, and the food was perfect. Our guide, Ursula, was absolutely remarkable. She explained to us the local fauna and flora with passion, and we could feel her contagious enthusiasm throughout the visit and in absolutely perfect French! I highly recommend MexicoKanTour and Ursula

One of the best tours I’ve ever been on! - We had such an amazing experience on this tour with Pablo and Jessi as our guides. They were both so fun and the life of the party. Jessi speaks 4 languages and was able to offer some of our group the French translation along the way. We had couples from all over the world in our group - Germany, USA, France, The Netherlands, and Mexico so it was a nice, diverse group. I hadn’t really heard of Sian Ka’an before we came to Mexico on vacation. I’m SO glad we booked this tour! It was fascinating learning about the mangroves and the local ecosystems that exist within this nature reserve. Pablo was our personal guide on our boat and he was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and the area. He was also just a joy to be around and has the best laugh! We were fortunate enough to see a crocodile up close, a sea turtle, a manatee, a dolphin, pelicans, frigate birds, and several types of herons including the bare-throated tiger heron, which is extremely rare! The waves were too choppy for us to snorkel over the reef safely, so we went for a swim in a gorgeous, shallow area with gorgeous, crystal-clear, jade-colored water with soft sand underfoot. It was chest deep and we saw a crab walking on the ocean floor. Punta Allen was a picturesque stop where we had a chance to rinse off in an outdoor shower and enjoy a delicious, authentic lunch. Plenty of options to choose from but I recommend the Mayan-style fish (and make sure to ask for the spicy sauce)! We had about 20 minutes to wander in Punta Allen so we got iced coffee and took pictures before heading back. I highly recommend this tour!! Pack some Dramamine if you’re prone to motion sickness and then sit back and have fun while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Amazing tour - checked all our boxes! - An amazing day thanks to Ursula and Ernesto!! We got to see dolphins, sea turtles, manatees, birds, and crocodiles up close in the magical setting of the biosphere. We loved learning about the flora and fauna, Mayan culture, & ecological significance of the biosphere and the 8 ecosystems it encompasses. Lunch at a local restaurant in Punta Allen for their traditional fish dish was also delicious. Such a special experience and a highlight of our trip to Tulum!

Great day out - This trip was better than we expected. We saw a variety of birds, crocodiles, manatees, dolphins and turtles which was amazing. Jessica and Ursula were great tour guides, very warm and welcoming. They switched between 4 different languages to accommodate everyone. They were also incredibly knowledgable about the wildlife and environment so we felt in very good hands. Understandably, parts of the reef are dying but we were lucky enough to see a reef shark and some lovely fish while we were snorkelling. Overall a great day out.

1000% recommend this tour with Ursula - We did our tour with Ursula and she was the best tour guide ever!! She was so kind and enthousiast about the nature and animals. Also, our captain (I think his name was Juan), did his best to find us all the animals so we saw dolphins, turtles, crocodiles, manatees and a lot of birds. Thanks guys for the best day!! Would 100% recommend this to my friends :))
