Great excursion - After our hotel pick up we were given a box lunch and dropped off at playa paraiso. The sand there is so fine and was a lovely beach. We then drove to the lagoon which was a neat experience. We then drove to Coba for a Mayan lunch buffet with was delicious. Then we drove to 2 nearby closed cave type cenotes that were amazing. The water was crystal clear and so refreshing. Life jackets were available for rent but not necessary. We were then dropped off at our hotel. It was a lovely excursion and so happy we did it.

We were picked up promptly at our... -
We were picked up promptly at our hotel the day of the excursion and the van we rode in was comfortable. Driver didn't speak much English but gentleman that accompanied him was very personable. We got dropped off at the wrong marina at first but were quickly loaded back in the van and driven to Punta Sam. The restroom at this location ended up having an issue and water and sewerage was all over the floor.
I should have done a better job researching the kind of boat. It was not very comfortable and it was a rough day on the open sea. No one can help the condition of the water on any given day. The two guys on our boat didn't speak a whole lot of English but they were very polite and personable. Just one family of five on the boat besides us. After riding for quite a while, we stopped at the reef and went snorkeling. Didn't stay in the water an hour but saw quite a few fish. We were the first ones to arrive at Contoy so could claim a good spot in the shade. We waited a while and one of our group asked one of our crew about lunch and he told us ten minutes. He came back to get us because by now, there were at least 200 people that were on the island just milling around. We were taken to a pavilion and seated and were called table-by-table to the buffet of roasted fish, chicken, salad, rice and rolls and then sliced watermelon for dessert. Very good fare for lunch along with bottled water or canned soft drinks. Guys did a great job with the food.
Afterward, one of the other guides said he'd be taking a group on the 45 minute nature hike but it had gotten hot and sticky by then so we opted to go back to the beach to relax and wait for our departure.
Two recommendations: an upgraded boat and chairs on the beach. The water is beautiful. We enjoyed wading out and just sitting in the water to relax. Was no need to put on a snorkel mask as you could see the fish swimming right by you as you sat in the shallow water.

This tour could have been purchased... -
This tour could have been purchased cheaper in Cancun than it cost to pre-book with Viator. Also, it was advertised as a hotel pickup and dropoff. We received an email good thing i was checking my emails a day prior telling us that we would need to find our own transportation down to the port. That was a 60 round trip by taxi. I will be expecting a refund from Viator. We were at the port promptly as requested at 9am, and a man greeted us and then left. By 9:30 or 10am, other people arrived, and they were divided into groups by the language they spoke. Our English guide, who was very nice, said our names weren't on the list, but not to worry, we might still get to go. At the very end, after everyone else had boarded, we were allowed on the boat and given the worst seats that were remaining with no back support. We were dropped off in choppy waters and told to snorkel. There was very little to see. Definitely not worth snorkeling there. Contoy Island was beautiful, and the luncheon was wonderful, even though i am vegan and didn't eat the fish or garlic bread. We were then taken to Isla Mujeres and had a brief amount of time to shop just long enough for my husband to get horribly ripped off - his fault. The ride back was fun with shots of tequila for all. I refrained since i'm not a big drinker. All the other people were driven back to their hotels in vans, but we had to beg a taxi driver to give us a ride back to our hotel, even though the taxi company was in the next parking lot.
